BEIJING, June 4 (APP): Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Moin ul Haque on Sunday said that the Pakistani and Chinese governments were making joint efforts to bring more Pakistani seafood and agro products through Karakoram Highway to the Chinese market.

“We are working together to bring more Pakistani seafood and agro products through this land route to the Chinese market,” he said while commenting on Pakistan’s first-ever land containerized seafood cargo which successfully arrived in Xinjiang through Karakoram Highway.

As the world’s second-largest consumer market, China embraces more high-quality Pakistani products exported to it.
Ambassador Haque said that facilitating trade and exports of Pakistan’s high-quality products through the Khunjerab border was Pakistan and China’s shared objective.

Last week, a truck loaded with cold chain containers from Pakistan arrived at Kashgar city in Northeast China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region via a cross-border land route.

This is the first time that seafood containers from Pakistan have been transported by road from Karachi to Kashgar city along the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a flagship project of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

According to a representative from the Pakistani transport company, it was the first attempt at a bilateral cross-border road transport business in partnership with a Chinese firm.

“The cost and price of cold chain transport of the route is under assessment, our Chinese partners are also exploring more opportunities to import more commodities from Pakistan,” he added.

The representative noted that the shipment cost by truck was far below that of air transport, and had simpler customs clearance procedures.

In addition, shipment by road shortens transport time to eight days, which is suitable for small-scale and point-to-point logistics, while the sea transport from Karachi Port to Yangshan Port in Shanghai takes nearly a month.

According to the report, the container truck entered China via the Karakoram Highway, the only land route linking Pakistan with China, undergoing customs check at the Khunjerab Port, the world’s highest port.

BEIJING, June 4 (APP): China’s Shenzhou-15 astronauts or taikonauts, Fei Junlong, Deng Qingming and Zhang Lu, who returned to Earth safely, arrived in Beijing on Sunday.

The three astronauts safely returned to Earth on Sunday after an over 180-day mission in the country’s orbiting space station, CGTN reported.

The re-entry capsule with the three taikonauts aboard touched down at the Dongfeng landing site in north China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region at 6:33 a.m. Beijing Time, according to the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA).

The CMSA declared the Shenzhou-15 mission a complete success after the medical team waiting on site confirmed that the trio was in good health.

Fei Junlong, the commander of the mission, was the first to come out of the capsule.

“I’d like to report to my country and people that the Shenzhou-15 crew has successfully completed all the assigned work and tasks in orbit. We have returned to Earth safely. We are feeling good,” he said.

Following Fei, Deng Qingming, operator of the mission, expressed his gratitude to those who made a contribution to the mission.

“My experience of the past 25 years led me to believe in the power of dreams and perseverance, no matter what is my age, I’m always happy because I’m needed by my country,” he said.

Deng, 57, was selected as a member of China’s first-generation astronauts in January 1998, and he was a backup crew member for both the Shenzhou-10 and Shenzhou-11 missions. Shenzhou-15 was his first space mission.

Shenzhou-15 was also the first space mission for Operator Zhang Lu. “Going forward, we’ll first get back in shape as soon as possible and resume training to prepare ourselves for the next mission,” he said after exiting the capsule.

The Shenzhou-15 spaceship was launched in November 2022.

On December 3, 2022, the Shenzhou-15 crew conducted China’s first-ever in-orbit rotation with the Shenzhou-14 astronaut trio.

During their stay at the China Space Station, the three astronauts accomplished four extravehicular activities (EVAs), setting a new record for Chinese astronaut crews in spacewalks.

They also conducted a series of scientific experiments and tests, which included the installation of the extravehicular extension pump set and the cross-cabin cable installation and connection.

The Shenzhou-15 crew, with the highest average age among Chinese astronaut crews, not only achieved a milestone in EVAs, but also witnessed the historic moment when the China Space Station was fully completed by the end of 2022, according to the CMSA.

Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing opens doors for monetizing writing skills

ISLAMABAD, Jun 04 (APP): Vast opportunities await educated youth in Pakistan to earn income by publishing their books with varying levels of content, including low, medium and high, using Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing online.

Talking to APP here on Sunday, the Chief Executive Officer of Scale Up Direct Publishing Syed Muneeb Ali highlighted that Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing is an online platform that eliminates the need for traditional publishers, allowing authors to publish their content without selling rights or relying on bulk publications.

He emphasized that content writers are freed from concerns about page quality, ink, cover design and binding.

According to Muneeb, content writers can reach a wide and diverse audience through Amazon Kindle, as the platform is available in over 16 countries and supports multiple languages, including English, Polish, French, and others. However, he noted that the scope for the Urdu language in the international market is currently limited, as Kindle was recently launched in India and has yet to establish a presence in Pakistan.

Regarding content creation, Muneeb advised creators to first explore market demand and identify gaps. He mentioned that topics such as crypto currency, blockchain, and artificial intelligence have been highly sought after in recent times, but there are many other interesting subjects to explore.

Muneeb further highlighted that Amazon Kindle operates on a print-on-demand model which means that books are printed and delivered to customers as soon as orders are received online. This eliminates the need for bulk publication and streamlines the distribution process, he added.

He mentioned that low-content books, which often feature activities for users to participate in, are particularly in demand on Amazon Kindle.
Examples of such activities include journaling, sketching, coloring, painting, and completing tasks beyond the pages, he said adding that medium-content books, on the other hand, offer unique content on each page, such as coloring books, activity books and puzzle books while high-content books were rich in information, such as biographies, textbooks and novels.

Additionally, Muneeb highlighted that authors can also publish e-book versions of their books, which can be read on Kindle tablets and applications. He emphasized that publishing on international platforms like Amazon introduces writers to a global audience.

Muneeb advised aspiring writers to explore a niche, identify their target audience, and create relevant content that resonates with their readers. He stressed that original and unique content holds great value, as digital platforms are adept at recognizing and promoting such content.

To assist publishers, Amazon provides a self-help tool that guides them in identifying errors in their books, such as margin issues, heading formatting, cover design, and interior layout, he said adding that publishers can promote their books through advertisements, blogs, affiliate marketing, and indirect marketing methods.

Muneeb revealed that newcomers can learn the process of self-publishing within 30 to 90 days and creating an account on Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing is as simple as signing up for an email account. He said that royalty models vary depending on the content, and authors can easily receive their earnings through their bank accounts.

He said that the potential for educated youth in Pakistan to leverage online earning opportunities through Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing is significant. He said that by tapping into this platform, young authors can showcase their talent, reach a wider audience, and generate income from their unique content.

Chinese scientists praise launch of ‘Shafi Malik Plant Breeders’

0

ISLAMABAD, Jun 04 (APP): Chinese agriculture scientists engaged in research in Pakistan on Sunday praised the recent decision to launch three “Shafi Malik Plant Breeders Cash Awards”.

The awards, which are worth one million rupees each, are designed to encourage the development of new, high-yield rice, cotton, and wheat seeds of the best quality, said a press release.

Chinese team leader Ling talking to the media said the Chinese government offers a basket of incentives to plant breeders who are “unsung heroes for developing the best quality seeds” which promise bumper crops but in Pakistan.

He said that this important segment was totally ignored however Chairman, Rice Research and Development Board, Government of Punjab Shahzad Ali Malik (Sitara-i-Imtiaz), who is also CEO of Guard Agriculture Research and Services, taking cognisance of this sorry state of affairs, first time in private sector history announced cash awards of “Rs 10 million each” for breeders of private and public sector whose variety becomes commercially successful on the basis of at least 10 percent increase in sale and production for consecutive three years.

Ling said it was a “feather in the cap” of Shahzad Ali Malik for this historic announcement and a good omen that the incentive would not be for varieties approved on paper only and not being found commercially viable. For rice crops, this reward also covers inbred (open-pollinated) whereas, for hybrid varieties with an average grain length of 8mm or above, he added.

Ling said this visionary decision would go a long way to help boost the research and production of cotton, wheat and rice seed varieties in Pakistan that will bring a green revolution in increasing per-acre yield.

He lauded the results-oriented initiative of the private sector to encourage the breeders.

Ling said that the solution to the current situation lies in the agro-based economy and Pakistan urgently needs to focus on it seriously.

Liu Linhui Business Manager for Pakistan Market and other Chinese plant breeders were also present on the occasion.

Sacrificing their today for nation’s tomorrow

QUETTA, Jun 4 (APP): Living nations are always alive to safeguard their territories and people with security forces standing undeterred against all odds coming in the line of duty and many laying down their lives for the secure future of people.

They, either in the form of Regular Armed forces, paramilitary, or within the police force, sacrifice their today for the nation’s tomorrow sometimes leaving behind painful tales of grief and agony.

Such tales are all around within each security force as heirs often recall and commemorate their dear ones who were no more with them but left behind a legacy of commitment, courage, and valor.

“My brother’s young children do not know that their father is no longer in this world, so they keep asking when baba (father) will bring our toys,” said Muhammad Akbar, whose brother Sepoy Muhammad Hayat embraced martyrdom in a bomb blast attack in Kachchi district of Balochistan.

Muhammad Akbar says his brother had promised toys with his children on return from historic Sibi Mela but way back home aboard the Balochistan Constabulary vehicle, he and his colleagues were targeted at Kambri Bridge in Bolan area of the Kachchi district.

“It is incredibly difficult for me to describe to Hayat’s kids what happened to their father and how long they had to wait for him,” Mohammad Akbar sobbed in agony.

Nine personnel of Balochistan Constabulary were killed and ten were injured in this tragic incident. These officials had gone to Sibi for security and other duties in the Sibi Mela.

Valiant police martyr Mohammad Hayat, hailing from Mastung district joined police at a time when many incidents of hitting security forces were rampant across the province and his is not the only tale of police warriors who were laying down their lives to secure the people.

“Neither fear of death nor tough police job deterred them from continuing their professional commitments,” Balochistan government spokesperson Babar Yusufzai said.

Paying homage to the martyrs of armed forces and personnel of law enforcement agencies, he said: “The government values them much more.”

“We always remember them individually and nationwide,” he said and mentioned celebrating Youm-e-Takrem Shuhada-e-Pakistan to commemorate the sacrifices of valiant sons of the motherland.

“It is due to such sacrifices that Balochistan is now on the road to prosperity and development. The undeterred commitment of our forces has finally ended up ‘no go areas’ in Balochistan.”

To restore durable peace in Balochistan, a large number of officers and officials of police had laid down their lives.

According to Police Spokesman Muhammad Aslam Khan as many as 1004 personnel and high-ranking officers of Police embraced martyrdom in the line of duty including one DIG, three SSPs, one SP, 21 DSPs, and 23 Inspectors.

“Being Police Chief, I belong to the families of martyrs and they belong to me. Shuhada-e-Pakistan are our heroes whose sacrifices can never be allowed to be demeaned or undermined by anyone,” said Inspector General (IG) Balochistan Police Abdul Khaliq Shaikh.

“Martyrs wrote the history of our defense with their blood. A nation cannot forget their sacrifices. They are alive in the heavens and in our hearts,” Khaliq Shaikh said.

“Entire nation expresses solidarity with the martyrs and their families.”

Therefore, the Balochistan government, in recognition of their services, has approved an increase in compensation amount by amending the Police and Levies Martyrs Compensation Policy. Now, the compensation for Shaheed Sepoy, Head Constable, ASI, SI, and Inspector (Grade 1 to 16) has been increased from Rs three million to Rs10 million, and for Shaheed ASP and DSP (Grade 17) has been increased from Rs five million to Rs15 million.

Similarly, compensation for Police and Levies officers of grades 18 and 19 has been increased from Rs nine million to Rs20 million and that for martyred police officers of grades 20 to 22 it been increased from Rs10 million to Rs20 million besides other material compensations.

“Although money cannot be a substitute for human lives yet it brings some respite to the grieved families,” said the IGP.

“Caring for the families of martyrs is our supreme responsibility and we always salute them as our saviors.”

During their recent visit to Yadgar-e-Shuhada-e-Police and FC, Governor Balochistan Malik Abdul Wali Kakar and Chief Minister Balochistan Abdul Quddus Bizenjo also eulogized great sacrifices of those laying down lives in the line of duty.

Reiterating the government’s commitment to continue supporting the armed forces, they praised the efforts of the military and law enforcement institutions in defending the country’s people and borders.

“We are proud of our forces who laid down their lives for their motherland. Their sacrifices for restoration of durable peace would be remembered for long,” they remarked.

Meanwhile, Parliamentary Secretary for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Dr Rubaba Khan Buledi also spoke highly of the great sacrifices rendered by Province’s security forces.

“Matchless sacrificed of law enforcers to secure the nation’s future will not go in vain,” Dr Buledi said.

“It is only due to their sacrifices that people live in peace. They are our real heroes and actual heroes and living nations never forget their martyrs.”

“As our soldiers sacrifice their lives on the war front, it is the shared responsibility of the whole nation to stand united against saboteurs and curb the menace of terrorism and lawlessness,” he added.

KP all set to welcome tourists with enhanced facilities

KAGHAN, Jun 4 (APP): With snow and clouds-covered mountain peaks, erratic rainfall, gushing rivers water and zig-zagging tracks, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province is once again all set to welcome a volley of local and international tourists.

With Malka Parbat mountain on the northeastern side of Kaghan Valley, Mohudand Lake in Kalam, Kumrat Valley in Dir and much more across the province would be presenting enchanting views to live in memories of visitors for long.

Adventure sports enthusiasts and eco-tourists will definitely be baffling over the moon when witnessing the breathtaking natural beauty of Saiful Malook, Lulusir, Ansoo lakes and Babusar Top as flocks of people from across the country have started arriving in the areas.

Saiful Malook – a famous 1.06 diameter, 113 feet deep and 3,224 meters above sea level lake, named after Persian Prince Saiful Malook and fairy princess Badri Jamala – is famous for popping up visitors’ thoughts with peace and serenity.

“Its natural beauty is beyond one’s imagination. I have visited many lakes abroad but no one can match the mesmerizing effect of this oval-shaped lake,” remarked Manzoorul Haq, a former ambassador. “It is really blessed with bounties of nature as manifested by its crystal greenish-blue water emanating from Malka Parbat glaciers.”

Recalling the past when people had to travel on rough roads to reach this beautiful place, Manzoor said, the enhanced road connectivity through Hazara Motorway, establishment of camping pods, construction of jeep tracks and improved road links had made it easier to visit Kaghan Valley and suburbs.

With enhanced connectivity and awareness through social media, more and more tourists throng these areas every year, the KP government also had to go the extra mile for ensuring better mobility and security facilities for the tourists.

“As tourists influx increases every year becoming a source of earning for the province, we are ensuring numerous measures to facilitate them,” said Saad Khan, KP Tourism and Culture Authority spokesman.

For this purpose, he said, under Ecotourism Project, camping pods were established at Sharan near Saiful Malook Lake to save tourists from high-charging hotels. “Besides Sharan, 10 more camping pods are being installed at different tourist spots including Gabeen Jaba, Bishigram and Malka in Swat, Yakhtangi Shangla, Shaheed e Sir and Mahaband Buner-Swabi, Allai Batagram, Bamburait Chitral, Thandyani Abbottabad and Sheikh Badin DI Khan.

Bishigram, Sharan, Yakhtangi, Shaheed e Sir and Malka camping pods had been opened for tourists with the remaining to be available after renovation work, Saad informed.

“These two to four beds pods with a washroom and a small kitchen are available at Rs 3,500 to Rs 5,000 per day against the hefty private hotel charges of Rs12,000 to Rs15,000 per room,” he added.

Saad said after successful experience with camping pods, it had been proposed to install pods at 10 more places, including Jargo and Sulatanr Swat, Lashkargha Broghal Valley and Surlaspur Shandor Valley Upper Chitral, Kumrat Valley Upper Dir, Laram Top and Shahi Bin Shahi Lower Dir, Lilowani Alpuri Shangla, Samanah Top Orakzai/Hangu and Kalam Swat.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Ali Syed, General Manager, KP Tourism and Culture Authority also informed about establishing five tourist facilitation centers at Chitral, Donga Gali, Abbottabad City and Peshawar. “To reduce tourists’ load at Galiyat, Kaghan, Naran, Kalam, Malam Jabba and Dir roads, jeep tracks were being built in 15 areas with an estimated cost of around Rs500 million.”

He said the KP government had also announced the construction of Integrated Tourism Zones (ITZs) at Ghanool Mansehra, Mankiyal Swat, Madaklasht Chitral and Thandiyani Abbottabad with the assistance of the World Bank.

“ITZs of Ghanool Mansehra would be established at 59.6 acres of land, Mankiyal Swat at 29.5 acres, Madaklasht 540 Kanal and Thandyani at 640 Kanal respectively,” Muhammad told. “As a pilot project, Ghanool would be developed first at a proposed cost of Rs 5.5 billion and then Mankiyal at Rs2.9 billion.”

He said pre-qualification bids of Mankiyal and Ghanool ITZs would soon be awarded for their completion within two years on the pattern of ITZs of Malaysia and Indonesia. “These ITZs are expected to attract millions of dollars in investment and create 200,000 direct and indirect jobs.”

“We have also completed feasibility of the Cable Car project from Dir Upper to Madaklast Chitral. This project would be financed by the World Bank through Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Integrated Tourism Project (KITE),” Ali informed.

As the tourism department is also establishing ecotourism spots at small dams, including Tanda Dam Kohat, Chatri Dam Haripur, Naryab Hangu, Kundal Swabi and Chalgoza Abbottabad, besides constructing a road from Maidan to Bishigram, the provincial government has also on way to provide better security for tourists.

“Besides, deployment of tourism police at different destinations of Malakand and Hazara divisions, we have also launched a ‘tourists assistance app’ to facilitate visitors,” informed Hayat Ali Shah, Senior General Manager Planning and Development KP Tourism and Culture Authority. “Due to these measures, around 86,000 tourists visited different spots across the province during the Eidul Fitr holidays.”

As Khyber Pakhtunkhwa offers vast tourism opportunities, fully tapping this potential can help local people generate sizeable income from local and international tourists.

Iftikhar Malik urges West to engage with Taliban leaders for peace and stability

0

ISLAMABAD, Jun 04 (APP): Former SAARC President Iftikhar Ali Malik on Sunday urged the West to engage with the new top leadership of the Taliban in order to achieve durable peace and stability in the region.

Talking to a delegation of industrialists led by Taimur Ali Malik here, he said that a new golden opportunity had arisen in the war-torn country and the West must take advantage of it, said a press release.

Iftikhar said the appointment of Maulvi Abdul Kabir as Prime Minister Afghanistan reflects a significant shift from the traditional rigid Taliban decision-making to a more contemporary, that is more open to dialogue.

He said it is very much in the global interest to have Afghanistan remain stable and at peace with its neighbours. Thus, the international community should not waste this opportunity, debating whether a change in the premiership is a sufficient indicator that the Taliban is willing to shift its domestic and foreign policy. It is, indeed, a clear signal that there is space for engagement, he added.

Iftikhar said the West should reach out to the Taliban and demonstrate readiness to negotiate the lifting of sanctions and the gradual reintroduction of development aid. Such engagement is crucial to prevent one of the worst humanitarian crises of the past decades and a new conflict destabilizing the region, he added.

He said this change in leadership can be seen as a positive development and an indication of willingness on the part of the Taliban to open up. He said that the recent decision by the authorities in Herat to allow several middle and high schools for girls to reopen was one such step.

The new Afghan premier may soon lift the ban on women working in the humanitarian field, as there is already exemptions for the health sector and certain key NGOs.

Leader of the delegation Taimur Ali Malik said that as a response to this strategic move by the Taliban, the international community should cash this opportunity.

He said feeling more confident on the domestic front and in their ability to govern without serious opposition, the Taliban appears ready for a greater degree of openness and dialogue with the outside world. Kabir’s appointment is a reflection of this openness, he concluded.
