FIH Mini-tournament starts from June 7

ISLAMABAD, Jun 6 (APP): A new mini-tournament in both men’s and women’s competitions of the FIH Hockey Pro League 2022/23 was all set to begin in Eindhoven, Netherlands from June 7 to 12.

Hosts Netherlands would be joined by Argentina and Australia in both men’s and women’s competition with China (women) and India (men) completing the list of participating teams, said a press release.

Railways retrieve 994 acres land from illegal occupants

ISLAMABAD, Jun 6 (APP):Pakistan Railways has retrieved as many as 994 acres of its land worth millions of rupees from illegal occupants during various anti-encroachment operations across the country.

“Around 487 acres retrieved in Punjab, 142 acres in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 337 acres in Sindh and only 28 acres in Balochistan,” an official in the Ministry of Railways told APP.

He said that about 3,287 acres in Punjab, 832 acres in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 5,180 acres in Sindh, and 687 acres of land in Balochistan were being encroached.

The official said that in light of the directives of the Supreme Court, the anti-encroachment operations for retrieval of encroached railway land all over the Railway network were initiated and a joint procedure order was issued to all divisional superintendents for retrieval of Railways land from encroachment.

“The anti-encroachment schedules, on a three months basis, are being prepared and sent to all concerned in line with the joint procedure order,” the official added.

He said Pakistan Railways had also decided to accelerate its ongoing anti-encroachment operation against land grabbers across the country to recoup its land from different individuals, groups, and even business organizations who were using it for residential, commercial, and agriculture purposes for decades.

“The encroachment operation will be launched with the assistance of Railway Police and district administrations of the relevant provincial governments,” he added.

He said the government was taking several steps to retrieve encroached land from the land grabbers including a detailed survey being carried out to identify the encroached land, occupied by the individuals and under illegal occupation by various government departments.

The official said that First Information Reports (FIRs) were being lodged and cases were registered and sent to PR Judicial Magistrates for expeditious trial.

The issue regarding illegal occupation and possession of Pakistan Railways’ land by government departments and institutions has also been taken up with the concerned departments, he added.

The official said PR owned 167,690 acres of land across the country, of which 90,326 acre was in Punjab, 39,428 acres in Sindh, 28,228 acres in Balochistan, and 9,708 acres in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Trade deficit narrows by 40.59% in 11 months of FY23

Pakistan's exports to China up nearly 6% in Jan-May

ISLAMABAD, Jun 6 (APP):The trade deficit witnessed a decline of 40.59 percent during the first eleven months of the current fiscal year as compared to the corresponding period of last year, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported.

The trade deficit during July-May (2022-23) was recorded at $25.791 billion against the deficit of $43.409 billion in July- May (2021-22), a decline of 40.59 percent.

The exports during the period were recorded at $25.366 billion against $28.871 billion last year, showing a decline of 12.14 percent.

On the other hand, the imports witnessed a sharp decline of 29.22 percent by falling from $72.280 billion last year to $51.157 billion during the current fiscal year.

On a year-on-year basis, the exports from the country witnessed a decline of 16.69 percent and were recorded at $2.186 billion in May 2023 against the exports of $2.624 billion in May 2022.

The imports also decreased to $4.275 billion in May 2023 from $6.760 billion in May 2022, showing negative growth of 36.76 percent.

On a month-on-month basis, the exports during May 2023 however increased by 2.29 percent when compared to the exports of $2.137 billion in April 2023.

The imports into the country also increased by 42.64 percent in May 2023 when compared to the imports of $2.997 billion in April 2023, according to the data.

ISLAMABAD, Jun 6 (APP):In Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), Hurriyat leaders and organizations have condemned India for building mega power projects in Kishtwar.

In their separate statements, they said, “The projects are being built in violation of the Indus Water Treaty,” a Kashmir Media service reported.

They said, “New Delhi is using land and resources of Kashmir, while benefits go directly to the Indian states.”

They further said, “Kashmir people are deprived of locally generated electricity.”

Pakistan, Poland agree to take measures to boost bilateral trade, diplomatic ties

ISLAMABAD, Jun 6 (APP):Pakistan and Poland have agreed to take practical measures to intensify cooperation in diverse areas of mutual interest to boost bilateral trade and diplomatic ties.

The two sides, at the 8th round of Pakistan-Poland Bilateral Political Consultations held here on June 05, reviewed the entire gamut of bilateral relations and agreed to enhance high-level exchanges and dialogue.

The Pakistan delegation was led by Additional Foreign Secretary (Europe), Ambassador Muhammad Saleem, while the Polish delegation was led by Under Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Wojciech Gerwel. The Polish Ambassador to Pakistan Maciej Pisarski also attended the Consultations.

They reaffirmed their mutual desire to intensify cooperation in the areas of trade, investment, energy sector, dairy and agriculture, financial sector, defense, migration & mobility, higher education and harmonization of visa regime.

It was also agreed to encourage cooperation between media house and chambers of commerce of the two countries.

The two sides discussed regional and global issues of mutual interest and reviewed collaboration at international forums, including at the United Nations. They found convergence of views on important issues and agreed to continue cooperation at the multilateral fora.

The next round of Consultations will be held in Warsaw in 2024.

Balochistan CM takes notice of killing lawyer in Quetta

QUETTA, Jun 06 (APP):Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo on Tuesday took notice of the murder of Supreme Court lawyer Abdul Razaq.

He condemned the incident and expressed his deep sorrow on the killing of Abdul Razzaq Advocate.

The Chief Minister also directed to Inspector General Police (IGP) to take all possible measures to arrest murders and to submit report after completion of investigations.

He instructed the IG to take steps to enhance security measures in order to ensure protection of people’s lives and property.

Senior lawyer gunned down in Quetta

QUETTA, Jun 06 (APP):Unknown armed men shot a senior lawyer Abdul Razaq at Airport Road Quetta on Tuesday.

According to police sources, the victim was near Airport Road when armed assailants opened fire at him and fled from the scene.


As a result, he died on the spot after receiving bullet wounds.


The body of the deceased was shifted to Quetta civil hospital for medico-legal formalities.


Lawyer community strongly condemned the killing of the senior lawyer Abdul Razaq.


The lawyer associations protested against the incident and demanded the government to arrest the murders of the advocate. Further investigation was underway.
