PESHAWAR, Jan 12 (APP): In a successful operation, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in Peshawar on Friday announced the arrest of two alleged suicide bombers affiliated with Daesh Khorasan (ISIS) from the Matni area.
CTD Superintendent of Police (SP) Najam-ul-Hussain told the media persons that the apprehended terrorists were planning suicide attacks targeting key political figures.
According to SP CTD, the arrested individuals were plotting a suicide attack on Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman. Furthermore, it was disclosed that the terrorists had intentions to target Awami National Party (ANP) President Aimal Wali through a suicide bombing.
The arrested suspects had reportedly visited the JUI-F’s center and investigations revealed that they had undergone training in the Paktia region of Afghanistan.
During the security operation, authorities recovered suicide jackets, three hand grenades, and propaganda material associated with Daesh. The Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU) has successfully neutralized the weapons and explosive devices.
SP CTD Najam-ul-Hussain disclosed that the outlawed ISIS had previously been linked to targeted killings of individuals representing various schools of thought in the region six months ago.
In a related development, authorities have made progress in identifying the individual responsible for planting a bomb on the Warsak Road. SP CTD assured that the arrest of the terrorist involved in the Warsak Road bomb blast was imminent.

Baqar directs Education Dept to provide hard, soft copies of textbooks to students
KARACHI, Jan 12 (APP): The Caretaker Sindh Chief Minister Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqar has directed the School Education Department to ensure that both hard and soft copies of textbooks are provided to students for online studying. We are in a digital age where children prefer digital content over hard copies and carrying them around, he added.
This he said while speaking at the launching ceremony of the website of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Mirpurkhas at CM House here Friday. Secretary U&B Noor Ahmad Samoo, Chairman Mirpurkhas Board Zulfiqar Ali Shah, Secretary Board Anisudddin, Controller of Examination Anwar Aleem and others were also present.
In a simple ceremony, the chief minister punched the key to the computer and launched the website of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Mirpurkhas.
The Chairman Mirpurkhas Board Zulfiqar Shah, while briefing the CM about the key achievements of the website, said that it would offer an online Enrolment facility / Enrolment Cards, examination forms and Roll Number Slips.
The website will also offer online affiliation facilities, Real-time facilitation for students, online verification facility, online all duplicate documents, online registration of examiners and supervisory staff, availability of informative videos for students and teachers, availability of online results of all examinations, and availability of correction forms, he said.
The Chairman said that his Board was also offering an E-academy to facilitate the students, especially in remote areas of District Tharparkar first time in history.
The CM was told that to promote the co-curricular activities, the Board made model papers of SSC and HSC availability on its website and also launched official Social Media to facilitate the Students of far-flung areas of District Tharparkar on the step. “The Board has also established an information desk which ensures the availability of updated information desk day to day for Students and all stakeholders”.
The CM was told that the Board has established a Facilitation Center (One-Window operation) and created a Complaint portal for the quick redressal of grievances of students. It was pointed out that the demand for unnecessary documents from the students was waived. He directed all educational boards to switch to online procedures, citing the time-consuming, labour-intensive, and error-prone nature of manual handling.
He directed the school education department to prepare a plan to provide students with both hard and soft copies of textbooks.
PSX gains 20 points
ISLAMABAD, Jan 12 (APP): The 100-index of Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) gained 20 points on Friday, showing a nominal positive change of 0.03 percent, closing at 64,637.64 points against 64,617.57 points the previous trading day.
A total of 643,307,931 shares valuing Rs.20.021 billion were traded during the day as compared to 586,548,829 shares valuing Rs.17.024 billion the last day.
Some 365 companies transacted their shares in the stock market; 137 of them recorded gains and 216 sustained losses, whereas the share prices of 12 remained unchanged.
The three top-trading companies were K-Electric with 142,506,004 shares at Rs.6.03 per share, Pak Int. Bulk with 77,950,500 shares at Rs.7.57 per share and WorldCall Telecom with 27,001,294 shares at Rs.1.42 per share.
Unilever Pakistan Foods Limited witnessed a maximum increase of Rs.299.00 per share price, closing at Rs.22,399.00, whereas the runner-up was Bhanero Textile Mills with a Rs.70.00 rise in its per share price to Rs.1,020.00.
Pakistan Suzuki Company witnessed a maximum decrease of Rs.63.80 per share closing at Rs.834.77, followed by Sapphire Fibres Limited with Rs.49.90 decline to close at Rs.1,700.00.
