FS reaffirms Pak’s commitment to ‘Engage Africa’ objectives
ISLAMABAD, July 25 (APP): Foreign Secretary Asad Majeed Khan on Tuesday reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to vigorously follow the objectives of the “Engage Africa” initiative and to increase trade, investment, tourism and people-to-people contacts.
The foreign secretary held a roundtable discussion with the envoys of the African Union here, Foreign Office Spokesperson posted on her Twitter handle.
PHHSA delegation embarks on China visit seek collaboration for hybrid seeds production
ISLAMABAD, Jul 25 (APP): A delegation of Pakistan Hitech Hybrid Seed Association (PHHSA) Tuesday left for a week-long visit to China to seek collaboration with its counterparts for joint production of new varieties of high yield hybrid seeds.
PHHSA Chairman Shahzad Ali Malik, in a statement before their departure, said the PHHSA’s collaboration with its Chinese counterparts could prove to be beneficial for both countries.
“By seeking help from experts in China, the Association aims to develop the best varieties of hybrid seeds, which can have positive implications for agriculture and food production in Pakistan,” he added.
Shahzad Ali Malik said hybrid seeds were often developed through crossbreeding two different varieties to create plants with desirable traits, such as improved yield, disease resistance, or better adaptability to specific climates.
“These seeds have the potential to significantly enhance crop productivity and contribute to food security,” he remarked.
He said the visit would give an opportunity to the PHHSA members to access advanced research, technology, and expertise in seed development.
“Such collaborations with Guard Agricultural Research and Services have been successful since 1990, where countries with complementary strengths pool their resources and knowledge to achieve common goals in agriculture and food production,” he added.
Shahzad Malik said the Chinese collaboration would augment advancements in crop varieties and help address agricultural challenges faced by Pakistan.
“The success of this venture will have positive impact on farmers, consumers, and the agricultural sector in both countries,” he concluded.
PSX continues with bullish trend as index gains 362 points
ISLAMABAD, Jul 25 (APP): The 100-index of the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) continued with bullish trend on Tuesday, gaining 362.53 points, a positive change of 0.79 percent, closing at 46,417.34 points against 46,054.81points the previous trading day.
A total of 319,893,485 shares were traded during the day as compared to 299,076,070 shares the previous day, whereas the price of shares stood at Rs 10.259 billion against Rs 8.139 billion on the last trading day.
As many as 350 companies transacted their shares in the stock market; 197 of them recorded gains and 128 sustained losses, whereas the share price of 25 companies remained unchanged.
The three top-trading companies were WorkdCall Telecom with 41,974,254 shares at Rs 1.41 per share; Fauji Foods Ltd with 26,058,761 shares at Rs.7.07 per share and K-Electric Ltd with 15,647,570 shares at Rs.2.14 per share.
Unilever Foods witnessed a maximum increase of Rs350.00 per share price, closing at Rs22,800.00, whereas the runner-up was Al-Abbas Sugar with an Rs 35.40 rise in its per share price to Rs 516.00.
Sapphire Fiber witnessed a maximum decrease of Rs 71.00 per share closing at Rs 1,224.00, followed by Siemens Pak with Rs 29.00 decline to close at Rs 379.00.
Govt’s policies yielding result: Dr Musadik Malik
DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Jul 25 (APP): Minister of State for Petroleum Dr Musadik Malik on Tuesday said that the present government was taking concrete measures to meet the country’s growing energy needs.
Addressing a ceremony where Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif inaugurated several mega development projects, the state minister said that during the present government, 138mmcfd new gas was added to the transmission system which was amount to saving $ 550 to 570 million, annually.
Similarly, he added 132 mmcfd was in the pipeline which would be injected into the system over the next six months and the total savings reached up to $ 1.1 billion for the nation.
He said that the total gas which comes to 270 mmcfd was being extracted from resources discovered and developed in Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, and other districts of the KP.
Similarly, so far, he added that from 43 to 45 million dollars worth gas had been added to the system from a single Bathani well and the saving would swell to 175 million dollars to 200 million when two other wells-Wali one and Two were developed.
He said that these measures were being taken under the policy of Shehbaz Sharif-led government to break the bagging bowl and adding of such promising quantities of gas into the system was evidence in this regard.
He said that blessings of positive steps were being passed to people and about Rs3 billion development schemes had been announced and were being utilized to build schools, hospitals in areas where these discoveries had been made.

All amendments, suggestions of members incorporated in Elections (Amendment) bill: Ayaz Sadiq
ISLAMABAD, Jul 25 (APP): Minister for Economic Affairs and Political Affairs Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on Tuesday said all amendments and suggestions of members were incorporated in the Elections (Amendment) Bill, 2023 adding that the report was prepared after consensus.
Speaking in the National Assembly, the minister said that the Speaker National Assembly and Chairman Senate jointly constituted a committee comprising members from both houses to address elections-related issues raised by the parliamentarians and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
The report was prepared after detailed deliberation and consensus of all members, he added.
Coming hard on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), he said those who attacked the parliament and Pakistan Television were now talking about the supremacy of the Parliament. The National Assembly was illegally dissolved by PTI despite moving of vote of no-confidence against the then prime minister by the joint opposition, he added.
The minister said ‘Yadgars’ (monuments) of those who rendered supreme sacrifices and laid their lives for our motherland were attacked on May 9. He requested the Chair to screen a documentary of those who inflicted loss to Pakistan since 2014.
