PM wishes success to Namira Salim ahead of her space journey

ISLAMABAD, Oct 4 (APP): Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar on Wednesday expressed his good wishes to Pakistani female astronaut Namira Salim who was set to start her space journey from October 6.

“Good Luck Namira Salim. I wish you success when you’re ready to make history on 06 October by becoming the 1st Pakistani woman to travel to space in the Galactic 04,” the prime minister wrote on social media platform X.

He said that by proving their mettle as trailblazers in multiple fields, the Pakistani women were making the whole nation proud.

Earlier, Namira Salim, in a statement said that she along with other astronauts were undergoing a training. On the first day of training, she and other astronauts had learnt about fitting spacesuits and parachutes to perfection.

“We are also trained about the functionality of our custom-made seats in the spaceship and how to fasten and unfasten our seat belts so we leave our seats in zero gravity well oriented and take the necessary steps to maximize our experience in space,” she commented.

BISP chairman emphasis equipping beneficiaries with technical education

NOWSHERA, Oct 04 (APP): Dr Muhammad Amjad Saqib, Chairman of the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) here Wednesday said that equipping children of the beneficiaries with technical education and vocational training was imperative for their economic empowerment, poverty alleviation and social change in society.

He said all initiatives of BISP were aimed at providing much-needed financial support to disadvantaged people and enabled them to make easy access to essential resources and opportunities for socioeconomic and education development besides nourishment of their children.

He said BISP’s Kafalat, Taleemi Wazaif, children Naushnuma and other programs were launched by the government to alleviate poverty and ensure the dignity and self-respect of the downtrodden.

Chairman BISP expressed these views while talking to beneficiaries and media during his visit to BISP centres at Risalpur and Nowshera here. Director General BISP KP, Zohra Aslam and other senior officials briefed him about various initiatives, the process of registration, institutional reforms and the disbursement of payment procedure.

Chairman Dr Amjad Saqib said that over 9.3 million families including 64,000 families in the Nowshera district were benefiting from the program continued in all districts of KP.

He said Taleemi Wazaif program was an important initiative started to help students of beneficiaries to get a quality education without financial constraint and contribute to the country’s development process.

He directed BISP authorities to select students of FA/F.Sc of the beneficiaries for online training courses in Information technology and other technologies so that they could contribute to their families on the financial front besides providing employment to others.

Dr Amjad Saqib directed BISP Nowshera authorities to prepare a list of 10 talented students of FA/FSc for online IT and other vocational courses and submit it to BISP Headquarters for speedy implementation.

He said that a society can move on the road to progress and prosperity only when the people and state work together for socioeconomic and education empowerment of underprivileged people and bring them to par with the developed segment of society.

He said BISP carried authentic verified data of the poor families and urged the philanthropists to come forward and generously contribute to their economic well-being.

Besides ensuring maximum facilities and transparency in the disbursement of the payment, he directed the staff to concentrate on the education of beneficiaries such as the significance of plantation, technology, cleanliness and other socioeconomic issues imperative for social change in society.

Dr Amjad Saqib reiterated that transparency was the hallmark of BISP and warned strict action against any staffer or agent found guilty of corrupt practices or irregularity in the payment procedure.

He asked the beneficiaries and civil society to inform BISP authorities in case of a deduction in payment or any financial irregularity so that strict action could be taken.

Director General BISP KP, Zohra Aslam said that Rs9,000 were being provided to each beneficiary every three months through a transparent mechanism besides Rs2000 under BISP’s Nashnuma to each family for nourishment of a child under two years of age.

Earlier, the BISP Chairman visited different sections of these centres including registration, and payment and met with beneficiaries besides inquired about their problems.

He expressed satisfaction with the service delivery at BISP centres in the Nowshera district and directed the staff to ensure the dignity and self-respect of all disadvantaged individuals.

PFF announce squad for FIFA WC 2026 qualifier

ISLAMABAD, Oct 04 (APP): The Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) has named the men’s team squad for the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifier.
The green shirts would play their World Cup qualifier match against Cambodia on a home-and-away basis.

According to details, the team would travel to Cambodia to play an away leg, scheduled on October 12 while the home leg was scheduled on October 17.

SCO conference on developing medical, pharmaceutical cooperation

BEIJING, Oct 4 (APP): The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) conference on development of medical and pharmaceutical cooperation was recently held in Suzhou, China.

Attendees included representatives from the public and private sectors related to healthcare from Pakistan, China, Iran, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Islamic the Russian Federation, and Uzbekistan.

During the conference, issues of strengthening international cooperation in the field of medicine and pharmaceuticals, harmonising quality control and registration of medicines within the SCO, and ensuring that pharmaceuticals have access to the markets of the SCO member states were all discussed, according to SCO Secretariat here.

The participants adopted the Suzhou Initiative following the SCO Conference on the Development of Medical and Pharmaceutical Cooperation, which reflects the goals and tasks related to the further promotion of SCO cooperation in pharma and healthcare, as well as ways to create an expanded, open, mutually beneficial and equal partnership aimed at the effective development of the pharmaceutical industry in the SCO space.

CDA planning to initiate residential scheme for Overseas Pakistanis

ISLAMABAD, Oct 4 (APP):The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is planning to launch a new state-of-the-art residential scheme only for overseas Pakistanis at Mauza Kuri in the federal capital.
“The new scheme, sprawled across 14,000 kanal of land along Kuri Road, adjacent to Park Road, will be reserved exclusively for overseas Pakistanis,” an official in the CDA told APP.
The official said that the plots within the scheme would be marketed and sold to overseas Pakistanis in US dollars, contributing to the country’s foreign exchange reserves.
He said that in the initial phase, the CDA has given the go head to the relevant authorities for the appointment of a design consultant, adding that the decision was made during a meeting chaired by CDA Chairman, Captain (r) Anwar ul Haque.
The official said the designated consultant would be responsible for overseeing the scheme’s execution and conducting various essential studies, including those related to environmental impact, traffic management, and hydrology.
Furthermore, he said the consultant would develop the design for infrastructure, road development, ensuring that all modern amenities are seamlessly integrated into the scheme.

ISLAMABAD, Oct 4 (APP):The Election Commission of Pakistan has issued a concise 30-point Code of Conduct for international observers and media during elections, emphasizing impartiality, respect for local laws and culture, responsible reporting, and security and violations may lead to accreditation withdrawal by the Commission.
The code of conduct instructs international observers to rigorously adhere to local laws, and show respect for Pakistan’s sovereignty and cultural norms.
It forbids actions that might sway voters, acceptance of gifts from political entities, and making personal remarks about the election. Additionally, it provides guidelines for responsible reporting and underscores the significance of security measures.
Any individual or member of a local group or international election observation mission, who is observing and reporting on the electoral process must thoroughly read and comprehend this Code of Conduct. They are also required to sign a pledge that is attached to this Code.
International observers and media personnel visiting Pakistan are required to follow the visa application procedures outlined by the government and must not exceed the authorized visa duration. Their conduct should respect Pakistan’s sovereignty and the fundamental rights and freedoms of its people.
International observers and media representatives in Pakistan must comply with the nation’s constitution and laws, as well as respect the authority of the Election Commission and its officials. They are obligated to maintain impartial, objective, and highly accurate observations and reporting.
Observers must heed instructions from the Election Commission and state authorities, maintaining a respectful demeanor toward them. Additionally, they should adhere to government and security agency advisories aimed at ensuring their safety during their stay in Pakistan.
Observers must demonstrate professionalism and cultural respect while displaying their official identification badges or accreditation cards issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan, complying with requests from electoral officials and relevant authorities.
Observers must maintain complete political impartiality throughout the election process, refraining from any bias or preference toward political parties or candidates.
They should adhere to photography rules and restrictions, while retaining the right to ask questions and seek clarification without obstructing any pre-election, election, or post-election procedures. Observers are also expected to collaborate harmoniously with fellow observers, media personnel, and polling staff.
Observers must consult with the Election Commission of Pakistan to select areas for election observation while prioritizing their security. Nevertheless, they should aim for balanced observation and reporting in their area choices. If needed, observers may employ Pakistani interpreters, but they must furnish all necessary information about these interpreters during the accreditation card application process.
Interpreters hired by observers should remain impartial and unprejudiced.
They have the freedom to observe and report all aspects of election management, including the actual polling day, without intervening in the proceedings at polling stations.
Furthermore, observers must avoid personal and professional relationships that might create conflicts of interest with their roles as observers and reporters.
Observers must refrain from accepting gifts or favors from any individuals, organizations, or political parties involved in the electoral process.
They are prohibited from wearing, carrying, or displaying partisan symbols or colors. Furthermore, observers should avoid making personal comments about their observations or conclusions to the media and should not engage in activities that could give the impression of favoring or opposing any political party or candidate.
Content featured in international print and electronic media, as well as any international media personnel, newspapers, digital media channels, and other influencers on international social media platforms, should not contain elements that promote parochialism, jeopardize the nation’s peace and security, or incite hatred or violence against any specific individual or group within Pakistan.
Similarly, this content should avoid any form of personal attacks against candidates or political parties in Pakistan based on factors such as gender, religion, sect, caste, or social background.
International media, including radio, television, and print, should refrain from publishing content that could harm public opinion about a particular political party or candidate in Pakistan. They must report only officially authenticated election results from the Returning Officer or the Election Commission of Pakistan.
Observer organizations should share their findings with the Election Commission, and the government and law enforcement agencies are tasked with ensuring the safety of international observers and media personnel.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) specifies that this code of conduct extends to the official social media accounts of international newspapers, channels, media individuals, and social media influencers.
International print, electronic, and digital media entities and influencers on their official digital media platforms should abstain from conducting entrance and exit polls or any surveys in polling stations or constituencies that could potentially impact voters’ free choice during the election process.
The Election Commission of Pakistan retains the authority to withdraw observer accreditation from both individual observers and observer missions, as well as individual journalists and media organizations, in the event of a violation of this Code of Conduct.
The Election Commission also holds the responsibility of determining such violations.
