Ashrafi, George discuss Jaranwala incident

ISLAMABAD, Oct 5 (APP): Pakistan Ulema Council Chairman Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi discussed the Jaranwala incident with Caretaker Minister for Human Rights Khalil George, the other day.

Ashrafi who is also the President of the International Interfaith Harmony Council condemned the gruesome incident in the strongest terms.

George said the government was committed to upholding and promoting the rights of all citizens in accordance with the Constitution and the law.

He appreciated the Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar’s immediate legal action against those involved in the Jaranwala incident. “We will not allow bigotry and lawlessness to ignite animosity among our communities,” he added.

Both the dignitaries emphasized mutual understanding and unity during the meeting.

QUETTA, Oct 05 (APP): The Caretaker Information Minister Balochistan Jan Achakzai on Thursday expressed disagreement with the statement made by Mullah Yaqoob, the Defence Minister of the Afghan Interim Government.

“It is important to recognize that Pakistan holds the sovereign right to expel any individuals, including those from Afghanistan, if deemed necessary,” the minister said in a message issued here.

“By seeking support from religious and political leaders in Pakistan, he has interfered in the domestic affairs of our Pakistan.

We will not succumb to any external pressure or influence. In accordance with the directives of the Federal Government and the Government of Balochistan (GOB) will take necessary steps to repatriate Afghan refugees within the next 26 days,” he added.

The information minister noted that government decision to expel these individuals is based on our national interests and the need to maintain stability within our borders.

It is crucial to ensure the security and well-being of our own citizens. Therefore, we stand firm in our resolve to address this matter in a timely and efficient manner, he added.

Expressing sympathies with Afghan immigrants, he said, “We understand the challenges faced by Afghan refugees and we will work closely with the relevant authorities to facilitate their safe return to their home country”.

This process will be carried out in a humane and respectful manner, taking into consideration the rights and dignity of all individuals involved, he expressed.

Furthermore, Achakzai stressed that it was essential for all nations to respect the sovereignty and autonomy of others.

RAWALPINDI, Oct 5 (APP): Caretaker Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, Aneeq Ahmed on Thursday said that countering religious extremism was a collective social responsibility.

Addressing the ‘National Symposium on Multifaith Harmony and Legal Safeguards’ held at the Christ Church, he emphasized that promoting interfaith dialogue was the need of the hour.

The minister stated that our history was rich, with Muslims and Christians sharing centuries together. Efforts to bridge gaps in societies must continue to prevent incidents like Jaranwala from recurring, he added.

Emphasizing the importance of nurturing social harmony, he said, “We have a bright past where Muslims and Christians have spent centuries together. We need to make further efforts to foster better societies to prevent incidents like Jaranwala from happening again.”

ISLAMABAD, Oct 5 (APP): Caretaker Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Dr. Kausar Abdullah Malik on Thursday emphasized the proper use of artificial Intelligence in the agriculture sector to revolutionize farming practices for a more efficient and sustainable future.

The minister held a meeting with the Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC) Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed to discuss matters of mutual interest.

Kausar said that by adopting advanced farming techniques, we can improve production and storage which will ensure food security in the country.

He sought cooperation from the HEC to assist the Ministry in the use of artificial intelligence in the agriculture sector.

The HEC offered the Ministry to have joint projects with agriculture universities, research organizations, and SUPARCO for food security by utilizing artificial intelligence and supercomputers.

The Ministry of National Food Security & Research would hold a joint conference with the HEC agriculture universities to devise plans & strategies for utilizing these modern technologies in the agriculture sector.

Pakistan reaffirms commitment to strengthen ties with Afghanistan

USC reduces ghee prices of leading brands: Spokesman

ISLAMABAD, Oct 5 (APP): The Utility Store Corporation (USC) has reduced the ghee prices of leading brands by Rs 60 per kg at all of its outlets across the country.

According to the spokesperson, as per the new prices, the price of BISP’s PMT-40 score register customers has been reduced from Rs 385 to Rs 325 per kg, while for general consumers it has been reduced from Rs 455 to Rs 395 per kg, said a press release issued here.
