Addressing the ceremony, Marvi Memon said the people would soon witness economic stability and development in the country due to effective policies of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif.
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government, he said,was striving hard to uplift the socio-economic condition of the common people and it had launched a number of mega projects which after completion would help address their issues.
She said education was necessary for children and the government
fully desired to promote education from the grassroots level.
Women could play a vital role by sending their children to school and
Waseela-e-Taleem Programme would provide financial assistance for the
purpose, she added.
She thanked President Mamnoon Hussain, Prime Minister Muhammad
Nawaz Sharif and Federal Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar for enhancing the budget of BISP from Rs 40 billion to Rs 102 billion in just two years which helped in launching of various schemes for improving
socio-economic condition of the people.
She said the Waseela-e-Taleem Programme with the financial assistance
of UK government and other foreign donors, had initially been started in
32 districts, and it would be expanded to other districts with the cooperation of provinces.
The BISP, she said, was playing a key role in improving the living
standard of the women by providing them financial assistance of Rs 4,500 after every three months.
Marvi Memon said efforts were being made to ensure the payment of
this financial assistance to women in time. In order to ensure
transparency, she added, the BISP was starting the biometric card system.
The BISP Chairperson said another scheme of the Prime Minister’s
Interest Free Loan would make the youth able to start their own business
and improve their socio-economic conditions.
She thanked the President and the Prime Minister for giving due
importance to the BISP schemes and hoped that under their guidance, the programme would be further flourished.
British High Commissioner to Pakistan Philip Barton, in his short
address in Urdu and Sindhi languages, said both the UK and Pakistan were enjoying strong relations and his country’s cooperation to Pakistan would continue.
The UK government, he said, was also investing Rs 47 billion in the
Waseela-e-Taleem Programme with the objective that the children, particularly girls, should avail maximum opportunities for the completion
of their education.
