ISLAMABAD, June 23 (APP): Federal Ombudsman has directed Chief Secretaries of all the four provinces to constitute core committees aimed at streamlining workers’ issues in their respective provinces.

Senior Advisor Law and Grievance Commissioner for Overseas
Pakistanis Federal Ombudsman Hafiz Ahsaan Ahmad Khokhar said
provincial secretaries labour and manpower, health, mine, mineral, Information Technology, information, environment and social security should be included in the committee.

The Committee of each province will prepare a consensus
working paper covering each point separately by July 15, 2016 to be
submitted to the Provincial Ombudsman, Information Commissioner and
Federal Ombudsman.

The relevant departments are required to give report on
development of monitoring and evaluation framework to ensure effective implementation and enforcement of labour laws, development of dedicated web site, development of media campaign, development of silicosis slandered and enforcement of transparency standard and detailed monitoring and evaluation system.

He said more than 2.5 million workers will be benefitted by
these steps, said a press release.

Khokar directed departments and attached organizations to
install a Universal Access Number (UAN) and a dedicated Web site for lodging complaints and nominate a focal person not below BS 19 officer to deal with workers’ issue.

In addition live data with respect to the each department
relating to the labour class must be available on the web site by July 10, 2016.

Every year more than 2.3 million workers met with occupational diseases/injuries and 48 per cent of such incidents take
place in agriculture sector and 52 per cent in non agriculture sector. However about 85 per cent of these incidents are from informal sector, the press release said.
