ISLAMABAD, Aug 1 (APP): Members of the National Assembly (MNAs) on both sides of the isle Monday condemned the Indian forces’ barbaric atrocities in Occupied
Kashmir and called on the United Nations and international community to help resolve the long-standing issue.
They asked the international community to compel India for implementing the UN resolutions on the Kashmir issue like East Timor and give the Kashmiris their right to self-determination.
The National Assembly suspended the routine agenda and started debate on an adjournment motion move by Jamiat Ulema-i-Isalm-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman to discuss the Indian forces brutalities on innocent Kashmiris.
Chief Whip of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Dr Shireen Mazari said the parliament should frame policies and the bureaucracy should implement the same.
Diplomatic efforts should be made to force India bring the Kashmir issue at the world fora and the UN under Chapter 6, she added.
Under Chapter 6, she said Kashmir was an international issue and Pakistan was party to it.
Dr Mazari said India had herself committed at the UN to settle the issue through a free and fair plebiscite.
She said Indian forces were using pellet guns against innocent Kashmiris, which was a violation of international human rights. The matter should be taken up at Geneva as under the law such weapons could not be used against the civilian population, he added.
She said even in the Simla Agreement, implementation of the UN resolutions was stressed. The UN resolutins on the East Taimour and Kashmir were same. Plebiscite was held in East Taimour but Kashmir was ignored, she added.
She said Pakistan should adopt a firm stance on Kashmir despite the United States and Indian pressure.
Beelam Hasnain of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) said there was a need to expose real face of India before the world.
Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto had effectively taken up the Kashmir issue at the international fora.
She said the whole nation was with the Kashmiris in this hour of trial.
Taking part in the debate, Sahibzada Tariqullah of Jamaat-i-Islami said there were 23 UN resolutions on Kashmir but was not yet implemented despite lapse of 70 years.
He said India had herself brought the Kashmir issue to UN but now reluctant to implement the resolutions.
He suggested that a delegation consisting members of this house and former foreign ministers besides members of Kashmir committee should pay visit world over to apprise the international community on Kashmir issue.
He also assured full support to the Kashmir Committee of the Parliament.
Shahida Akhtar Ali of JUI-F said Kashmiri and Pakistani people were close by their heart and added Maulana Fazalur Rehman understand the sensitivity of the Kashmir issue.
She said that Kashmir committee should be more empowered to play more effective role in Kashmir issue.
She said, we strongly condemn the barbaric acts of Indian forces against Kashmir people, adding Human Right Commission which was currently silent should play its role with regard to Kashmir issue and to break this inertia.
Shahida Akhtar Ali said unless Indian Army Act was repealed, martyrdom of people would continue and the independence movement would gain strength.
She said Pakistan should extend moral and diplomatic support and being Muslim we are to make efforts to make Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)more functional and its commission on Kashmir should be made more active.
She expressed dismay that International Community had turned blind eye to atrocities by Indian forces, adding resolution should be passed on making OIC more functional.
Dr Arif Alvi of PTI, said Kashmir Committee should play more effective role.
He expressed hope that Kashmir would get independence as there was indigenous movement in progress.
Dr Arif Alvi was of the view that Kashmir Committee should have utilized role of media which played an important role in shaping opinion, but failed to do so.
He said it was responsibility of Kashmir Committee to apprise international community on Kashmir issue.
Sahibzada Muhammad Yaqoob of Jamat e Islami said human rights were grossly being violated by the Indian forces, adding People of Kashmir were rendering supreme sacrifices and Pakistan should play more effective role while extending moral and diplomatic front to appraise world about Indian atrocities, he added.
Naeema Kishwar Khan of JUI-F said World human rights organizations and bodies had kept mum on human rights violations in Indian held Kashmir, mentioning that it was
the responsibility of all to tell world about the plight of Kashmiris.
There was indigenous movement in Kashmir and Kashmir committee was body of the entire Parliament, she said, adding it should complete the parliamentary committee,
having representation of Senate as well.
It should not be a recommendatory body rather it should forward guidelines, adding its chairmanship had not been given to JUI-F as a gift and we should avoid indulging in
blame game against one another.
She said India’s own media and parliamentarians had started blaming its government. Foreign affairs ministry should be strong enough to let the world know about Kashmir issue.
However, the initiative of convening ambassadors meetings was a good omen, she added.
Imran Zafar Leghari of PPP said every government had raised the Kashmir issue during their tenures. However, he said, India had always shown rigidness and spoiled all the efforts of Pakistani government.
He said India wants to occupy rivers flowing from Kashmir in a bid to turn Pakistan barren.
Abdul Wasim of MQM said it was need of the hour to make all Pakistani diplomats active on Kashmir issue across the world in order to raise it on all international fora.
Parliamentary delegations should also be constituted to this effect.
He said the privates TV channels should also telecast Indian atrocities in the occupied valley just like PTV.
Asia Nasir of JUI-F demanded more strengthening of the Kashmir committee, saying if East Taimour issue could be resolved then why the longstanding issue of Kashmir could
not be addressed.
She said the International Community should shun its hypocrisy and play due role for resolving Kashmir issue amicably, adding the real face of India should be exposed
before the International community.
Qari Muhammad Yousaf of JUI-F said being the chairman of Kashmir Committee, Maulana Fazlur Rehman had effectively pleaded Kashmir cause at all fora.
