ISLAMABAD, Jul 29 (APP):The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) have taken firm action against illegal parking across commercial areas and main roads of the federal capital, penalizing over 56,000 drivers during the current year.
A spokesperson told APP on Tuesday that the enforcement campaign is being carried out under the special directives of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad, Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, to maintain smooth traffic flow and uphold road discipline. The ITP has deployed special squads to monitor “No Parking” zones and ensure uninterrupted pedestrian movement on footpaths.
The ITP teams have issued fines and impounded several vehicles that were causing obstructions in markets, shopping centers, and on major thoroughfares. The operations targeted violations such as parking on footpaths and outside designated areas.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Captain (R) Syed Zeeshan Haider directed all zonal DSPs to intensify legal action against violators and ensure compliance with traffic regulations. “Strict enforcement of parking rules is essential to prevent congestion and protect the rights of pedestrians,” he said.
He emphasized that no leniency would be shown towards individuals parking in prohibited areas or blocking walkways. “Footpaths belong to pedestrians—no parking or encroachment will be tolerated,” the CTO added.
The ITP has urged citizens to cooperate with traffic police, park responsibly in designated spaces, and contribute to maintaining a disciplined urban traffic environment.
