ISLAMABAD, Jul 18 (APP): The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration has expanded its vehicle emission testing system to private vehicles as part of efforts to curb environmental pollution.

In this regard, inspections of official vehicles are already in progress, with plans to set up testing points across the Federal Capital.

According to the spokesman of ICT administration, the Islamabad Transport Authority (ITA) has intensified vehicle inspections under the ongoing Vehicle Emission Testing System. The campaign, aimed at reducing air pollution, initially focused on government vehicles but has now been extended to private vehicles as well.

Chairman ITA, Irfan Nawaz Memon, along with Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Islamabad, visited an inspection site to review the emission testing process. During the visit, officials evaluated the inspection mechanisms in place and monitored the progress of vehicle checks.

Speaking during the visit, Chairman ITA Irfan Nawaz Memon said the inspection of all government vehicles is already underway to ensure their compliance with environmental standards. He further announced that the emission testing service is now open to private citizens who want to have their vehicles checked.

Memon stated that the administration plans to establish multiple inspection points across Islamabad to facilitate both public and government vehicles. “We are expanding the network of testing sites so that citizens can conveniently access emission testing services,” he said.

To ensure compliance, the ITA will work in coordination with the Islamabad Traffic Police. Memon warned that action will be taken against vehicles found to be non-compliant or those avoiding the emission checks. “We will launch joint operations with the traffic police against owners who refuse to cooperate,” he added.

The initiative is part of broader efforts by the district administration to control vehicular pollution in the federal capital. Authorities are focusing on inspecting vehicle emissions to prevent environmental degradation and ensure better air quality for residents.

Officials from the transport authority and traffic police will continue monitoring the situation through regular inspections at various locations in the city. The inspection points will be increased gradually to cover all areas and vehicle types.

Memon urged citizens to take advantage of the available facilities and have their vehicles inspected voluntarily. He emphasized that reducing emissions is a collective responsibility that contributes to public health and environmental conservation.

The district administration also plans to raise awareness about the importance of emission testing. Public campaigns are expected to encourage more citizens to comply with the new system.

Officials reiterated that vehicles emitting pollutants beyond the permissible limit will face strict action, including fines and possible impoundment. The Islamabad Transport Authority has asked citizens to cooperate fully with the inspection teams to ensure the success of the initiative.

With the expansion of the emission testing system and collaboration with traffic police, Islamabad’s authorities aim to ensure cleaner air and better compliance with environmental standards in the city.
