Gordon Brown lauds Maryam Nawaz’s education cause

ISLAMABAD, Dec 17 (APP): The United Nations Special Envoy for Global Education Gordon Brown has appreciated Maryam Nawaz, the daughter of the Prime Minister, for her commitment for the promotion of education in the country.

Brown, the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, in a letter addressed to Maryam Nawaz mentioned her “continued commitment to education for the children of Pakistan”.

Gordon Brown said as UN’s Special Envoy for Global Education, he was a supporter of ensuring that all children in Pakistan had the opportunity to go to school and learn.

According to Maryam Nawaz, she is assisting his father in his Education Reforms Programme “purely as a volunteer”.

She has been recently visiting different schools to review the revamping of facilities at the educational institutions.

Under the Prime Minister’s Education Reforms Programme, all the 422 schools and colleges in the capital territory will be upgraded and equipped with state-of-the-art facilities.

The facilities include setting- up of science and information technology laboratories, libraries, buses for transportation of students, improved examination system and teachers training.
