ISLAMABAD, Jul 02 (APP):In a landmark step towards improving academic quality and international competitiveness in the Muslim world, the OIC Ministerial Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH) hosted an International Workshop on Quality Assurance and University Rankings in Islamabad.
The high-level event attracted over 500 participants from 27 countries and more than 300 institutions, including renowned education experts, vice chancellors, and directors of Quality Enhancement Cells (QECs).
The workshop aimed to spotlight the vital role of quality assurance (QA) in enhancing institutional credibility, global rankings, and sustainable academic growth.
In his inaugural remarks, Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General COMSTECH, emphasized the strategic importance of quality assurance as a foundational element for achieving excellence in higher education.
“This gathering reflects a collective commitment to enhancing the quality, relevance, and global standing of higher education in the OIC region,” he said. “Quality assurance is not merely a procedural requirement—it is the foundation of
sustainable academic excellence and a key enabler for achieving SDG-4 on quality education.”
The hybrid workshop included thematic sessions led by distinguished experts such as Dr. Syeda Zia Batool and Dr. Jennifer Cole-Wright, who shared best practices, global experiences, and case studies like the University of Leicester’s QA model.
The discussions focused on aligning Question Answer systems with international standards, promoting transparency and accountability, and strengthening institutional capacity in monitoring, evaluation, research productivity, and employability.
The event served as a vital platform for fostering cross-border collaboration and dialogue among higher education institutions across the OIC region, paving the way for a more integrated and competitive academic landscape.
