Allegations against PM are baseless; references will provide opportunity to prove innocence

ISLAMABAD June 28 (APP): Minister for Commerce Khurram Dastgir
Khan on Tuesday said corruption allegations against the Prime
Minister were baseless and references filed by Pakistan Peoples’
Party and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf at Election Commission
would provide Pakistan Muslim League -Nawaz an opportunity to
prove its leadership innocent.

“Allegations against the Prime Minister are baseless and will
prove to be baseless. The PPP has settled the score against PML-N
by filing references. Law will take its course and everything
will become clear,” he said in a private news channel programme.

“It is a good opportunity for us to prove our leadership innocent. We welcome this bid as it is for the first time that the opposition has taken a proper course instead of sheer blame game,” he said.

“We shall counter their allegations whole heartedly and prove them false. This will bring clarity to the issue.”

He said the name of Prime Minister is not in Panama leaks. Opposition was playing sheer blame game even during the ToRs committee meetings. But, now they have filed petitions and let the ECP investigate this matter and unearth the truth.

“We are hopeful that their allegations will prove to be false and the PM and his family will prove to be innocent,” he added.

Khurram Dastgir said, from day one the opposition desired to target the Prime Minister and they have done so in their petitions. “Let them prove the Prime Minister as guilty as the burden of proof lies with the accuser.”

Refuting the allegations of the opposition, he said, Nawaz Sahrif is
Prime Minister of Pakistan no matter if he is in London. Even
over there, the Prime Minister is seeing the files and issuing orders.

He said the PML-N never opposed accountability. “Now the matter
is in the court and let the decision come. We trust our
legal institutions and will fight the legal battle.”

He said it is mockery of the nature that today PPP is delivering us
lecture on corruption and the PTI on morality.

Contesting a point regarding electronic evidence, the minister said, evidences will be discussed in the court and let the court decide. “What I can say is that on the Internet where there is authentic information, there is also false and baseless information.”

He said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has also faced these allegations during Benazir Bhutto tenure in 1993-96 and nothing was proved. “We shall once again face these charges and come out clear as these allegations bear no truth or grounds.”
