Opposition does not believe in law, Constitution: Farrukh

Speculation, misleading facts foster yellow journalism: Farrukh

ISLAMABAD, Oct 20 (APP): Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Farrukh Habib said on Wednesday that both Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and Pakistan People’s Party will have to provide details of their party funding and they would not be provided any escape route.

Talking to media outside Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) after appearing before ECP’s scrutiny committee he said that the opposition did not believe in any law or the Constitution.

He said that if any institution takes action as per law they attack that institution. Farrukh said that PML-N attacks on the Supreme Court and National Accountability Bureau office and criticism on the judges of superior courts were its manifestation.

He said that millions of rupees were deposited in both parties’ accounts and they should let the people know who had made those big donations.

The scrutiny committee of the ECP has set up a sub-committee which will meet from October 25, Farrukh Habib said adding PTI financial expert and charter accountants would scrutinize the funding details of PML-N and the PPP for 8 days each.

Farrukh Habib said that the nation would be provided updates on the developments on daily basis.

He challenged that Maryam Safdar would not be allowed to escape from this process.

Farrukh Habib said that the PML-N was accustomed to Justice (retd) Qayyum style telephonic justice, but whenever they were asked to provide proofs of their innocence they started hue and cry.

He vowed that the PTI would continue to pursue foreign funding case vigorously, the minister of state said.

He asked Maryam Safdar and Bilawal Zardari to provide receipts of party funding. Taking a dig on the PML-N, he said they should not produce a Qatari letter or fake trust deed again.

The real story of misuse of party funds for money laundering would be disclosed after the scrutiny, he remarked.

Farrukh Habib said the PTI had already presented its complete record of foreign funding before scrutiny committee, the record of 40,000 donors besides 16 volumes of record to ECP.

He said the PTI was the only political party that has introduced political fund raising in Pakistan.

He advised both parties not to conceal receipts of party funding as there was no other option available.

He said that according to the record presented by the State Bank of Pakistan in ECP scrutiny committee, several accounts of both the parties had not been disclosed by them in the papers submitted in the ECP.

The minister demanded from the ECP that the accounts of other political parties including Fazlur Rehman’s Jamiat Ulema Pakistan should also be scrutinised.
