Improving access to water and sanitation a priority for Pakistani government: Delegate

UNITED NATIONS, Nov 21 (APP): Pakistan told a United Nations panel Friday that it was on its way towards achieving better access for all to clean water and adequate sanitation.
“Water and Sanitation continues to be a priority of the Government of Pakistan and of its people,” Pakistani delegate Tanveer Aslam Malik said in remarks at the closing session of the United Nations Secretary-General’s Advisory Board on Water & Sanitation.
Pakistan, he said, had approved policies, strategies, WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) Sector Development Plan and draft Municipal Drinking Water Act WASH to achieve the targets envisaged for water and sanitation.
Malik, who is a minister in the Punjab government, backed the formation
of an inter-governmental committee aimed at devising smart investment on water and sanitation amid scarce resources. With right allocations, he said, Funds could be optimized for the benefit of the world’s people. “The recommended Committee will also sensitize the political leadership and Governments to achieve SDG Targets,” the Pakistani delegate said.
