FAISALABAD, Jul 10 (APP):Provincial Parliamentary Secretary for Housing, Urban Development & Public Health Engineering Barrister Sultan Bajwa said that work on the mega French-funded surface water treatment project would commence in the last week of July and this project would generate 25 million gallons of clean drinking water per day.
Addressing a meeting here on Thursday, he said that the project would significantly enhance provision of clean drinking water to the populations residing in the eastern zones of Faisalabad city.
He also reviewed the progress of this foreign-funded initiative and said that the provision of safe drinking water to citizens across Punjab is a key part of Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz’s vision. He termed the upcoming phase-II of Surface Water Treatment Plant a welcome step towards that goal.
He praised WASA Faisalabad for consistently attracting international development interest. Whenever foreign donor agencies look to initiate public welfare projects in Pakistan, their attention often turns to Faisalabad owing to the city’s track record in timely project execution and professional capabilities of WASA engineers, he added.
He said that WASA Faisalabad not only completes projects within stipulated timeline but also ensures long-term maintenance of installed machinery with exceptional standards.
He also highlighted a significant achievement under CM Maryam Nawaz’s leadership by restoring more than 1,800 previously non-functional filtration plants across the province. The step would help in providing uninterrupted access to clean and safe drinking water, he added.
Barrister Bajwa announced that with support from the Government of Denmark, preparations are now complete to initiate a wastewater treatment plant project. This plant will treat sewage water to make it usable for agricultural purposes. This project would also offer a dual benefit of pollution control and water conservation, he added.
Managing Director WASA Sohail Qadir Cheema said that all efforts are aligned to ensure timely execution of both foreign-funded projects.
He described these projects as transformative initiatives that will serve as a lasting gift for public welfare and environmental sustainability in the region.
