SARGODHA, Jul 17 (APP):Vice Chancellor of the University of Sargodha (UoS) Prof. Dr. Qaisar Abbas has returned to Pakistan after an academic and research-focused visit to China, aimed at expanding bilateral cooperation in education, research, and innovation.
During the visit, Prof. Dr. Qaisar Abbas, accompanied by Director External Linkages Prof. Dr. Ijaz Asghar Bhatti and Director Pakistan Institute of China Studies Prof. Dr. Tahir Mumtaz Awan, signed multiple agreements with leading Chinese institutions. Key among them was a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Nankai University to promote joint research initiatives, digital learning, and faculty and student exchange programs. The agreement was formalized during a meeting with Prof. Cheng Youlu, President of Nankai University.
UoS also signed a strategic MoU with Zaozhuang School of Technology, resulting in the inauguration of a joint Lithium Battery Research Center to enhance collaboration in advanced energy technologies. Plans are underway to establish a lithium battery manufacturing unit in Pakistan to support local industry-academia integration.
Further amplifying its global outreach, UoS represented Pakistan at the SCO Digital Economy Forum 2025 in Tianjin. Prof. Dr. Abbas participated in a high-level panel on “Digital Economy and Higher Education Cooperation” and attended the launch of the Digital Economy Universities Alliance, promoting cross-border academic collaboration in digital innovation.
A landmark achievement of the visit was the formal agreement to establish an overseas UoS campus in Changjiang Li Autonomous County, Hainan Province.
The signing ceremony was attended by Dr. Abbas and Chief Mayor Mr. Liang Ming, who jointly expressed their commitment to fast-track the initiative.
The visit concluded with a meeting between Prof. Dr. Qaisar Abbas and Pakistan’s Consul General in Guangzhou, Mr. Sardar Muhammad, who assured full diplomatic support for the overseas campus project and commended UoS for enhancing Pakistan-China educational ties.
