KARACHI, Jul 09 (APP):Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, Wednesday, stated that the Sindh government has raised relief grants for victims of the 2022 worst ever flood catastrophe under the package that includes compensation for crop damages, provision of seed and monetary support for land rehabilitation.
The Senior Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit, announcing the major relief measures approved during the recent Sindh Cabinet meeting for farmers through a statement issued here, informed that the increase in relief funds for flood-affected farmers is part of the Sindh Flood Rehabilitation Program, which has already been recognized as the world’s largest post disaster housing initiative.
He said that the cabinet also approved a memorandum of understanding with Sindh Bank to expedite the activation of the Benazir Hari Card that enables farmers to receive subsidies on agricultural inputs, soft loans, and financial assistance for disaster preparedness. So far, over 237,000 farmers have been registered, and the verification of 88,871 applications has been completed, he added.
Development of new industrial zones in Sukkur and Hyderabad in public private partnership for economic growth and job creation got the nod of Sindh cabinet, Sharjeel Memon informed, adding a total of 951 acres of land in Hyderabad will be transferred to the Sindh Economic Zones Management Company for the purpose.
The Sindh cabinet has also approved an interest-free loan of Rs 10.56 billion for Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation for a water supply augmentation project comprising a 36-kilometer pipeline from Damloti to DHA, construction of a pumping station, filtration plant, and reservoir, with a completion target set for 11 months, he said adding that the project will ease the acute shortage of water in DHA area of Karachi that receives only 5 MGD water against the daily requirement of 15 MGD of water.
Sharjeel Inam Memon said that the Sindh government is taking practical steps for the welfare and development of the people, and resolution of public issues and transparent governance were among its top priorities.
