QUETTA, Jul 23 (APP):Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti underscored the need for clarity to understand Balochistan’s present-day challenges, adding that many anti-state activities stem from long-standing ideological misconceptions and misinterpretations.
Speaking at the 16th National Workshop on Balochistan, CM Bugti emphasized that distorted narratives about the province have contributed to unrest, and called for greater awareness of its diverse political heritage.
The event was attended by prominent figures, including Dr. Rubaba Khan Buledi, Advisor for Women Development, MPAs Mir Rehmat Saleh Baloch and Waja Khair Jan Baloch; Additional Chief Secretaries Hamza Shafqat (Home) and Zahid Saleem (Development); Principal Secretary to CM Babar Khan Spokesperson Shahid Rind.
“Anti-state sentiments are rooted in historical grievances and skewed narratives,” Bugti said. “We’re ready to welcome any disillusioned youth who seek reconciliation, but there will be no dialogue with those who resort to violence against innocent civilians.”
He condemned violence carried out under the banner of nationalism or religion, asserting that terrorism must be denounced regardless of its justification.
Bugti rejected the idea that unrest in Balochistan is solely driven by unemployment or economic hardship, calling separatist agendas based on identity unconstitutional and harmful to national unity.
He stressed the importance of fact-based historical interpretation to guide future stability.
Bugti also shared details of the provincial action plan for sustainable peace, highlighting strategic improvements in response mechanisms against militancy. He noted that “grey zones” remain a challenge, where distinguishing adversaries from allies is difficult.
Addressing radicalization, Bugti voiced concern over Baloch youth being drawn into “futile and destructive wars.” On the issue of missing persons, he referenced new legislation aimed at bolstering the investigative process.
CM Bugti outlined comprehensive governance initiatives designed to improve public service delivery. He claimed that 99.9 percent of appointments in health and education sectors were made on merit. Scholarship opportunities are being extended to Baloch students for national and international academic advancement.
He cited progress in anti-corruption efforts, with the activation of the Chief Minister’s Inspection Team (CMIT) and the Anti-Corruption Department. Merit-based appointments, he added, have enhanced institutional integrity, especially in the Balochistan Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education and the Textbook Board.
In reference to a recent viral video depicting the murder of a man and woman, Bugti confirmed that a transparent investigation is underway. Since families have not filed FIRs, the state has taken up the role of complainant. He affirmed that legal action will be pursued to secure justice for the victims.
The Chief Minister reaffirmed his commitment to peace, development, and prosperity in Balochistan.
