LAHORE, Jul 08 (APP):Punjab Minister for Housing Bilal Yasin, chairing a planning meeting at the Punjab Saaf Pani Authority (PSPA) headquarters on Tuesday, reviewed the progress on the first phase of the clean drinking water initiative, which includes the installation of 944 new filtration plants in 15 districts across the province.
During the meeting, CEO PSPA Zahid Aziz and Director General (O&M) Zohaib Butt provided a detailed briefing on the progress made and the proposed interventions aligned with Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz’s directives. The meeting underscored the government’s commitment to expanding safe water access through sustainable planning and execution.
Among the various proposals discussed was the establishment of bottled clean water supply units in four cities of South Punjab and the Pothohar region. The plan also includes the installation of two small-scale and one large-scale surface water treatment plants, to be formally included in the upcoming PC-1 development document.
A comprehensive review of clean water supply strategies in the Pothohar region was also conducted, with a focus on utilizing dam water through advanced treatment methods.
Addressing the meeting, Minister Bilal Yasin said the Punjab government is undertaking historic and transformative projects to ensure clean drinking water for all. He directed the PSPA team to expedite the finalization of PC-1 and eliminate any bureaucratic delays that have hindered progress in the past. He emphasized that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif is deeply committed to ensuring sustainable, long-term access to safe water for every citizen, and confirmed that new water supply projects will be launched each year as part of a broader strategy.
The meeting was also attended by Parliamentary Secretary Barrister Sultan Bajwa and Chairman Saaf Pani Authority Chaudhry Zahid Akram, who expressed full support for the initiative and highlighted the urgency of timely implementation.
