LAHORE, Jul 13 (APP): Convener Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Regional Committee on Food Shahid Imran has said that industrial productivity serves as the engine of sustainable economic growth.
He made these remarks while chairing a roundtable workshop titled “Industrial Production: Key to Sustainable Economic Growth”, organized under the aegis of Family Food Products, here on Sunday.
Shahid Imran said that enhancing industrial productivity, achieving greater output using fewer resources, is fundamental to long-term economic stability. “It drives efficiency, fosters innovation, and supports enduring prosperity,” he said.
Explaining the concept, he noted that when industries adopt better technologies, streamline processes, and invest in workforce development, they can produce more goods and services without proportionally increasing inputs such as raw materials, energy, or labor. This “doing more with less” approach not only reduces production costs but also improves competitiveness and frees up capital for investment in other sectors. “Higher productivity leads to increased profits and wages, which in turn stimulates consumer spending and drives broader economic expansion,” he added.
He explained that the economic surplus generated through productivity gains can be reinvested in critical sectors like renewable energy, education, and infrastructure, which form the foundation of a resilient and future-ready economy.
Warning against complacency, Shahid Imran stressed that without ongoing productivity improvements, economic growth becomes increasingly resource-intensive and unsustainable, placing undue stress on ecosystems and limiting development opportunities.
“Fostering results-oriented industrial productivity is not merely about maximizing output; it is about generating the efficiency and surplus required to build an economy that balances growth with environmental responsibility and societal well-being,” he said. “It is, quite simply, the indispensable key to sustainable development.”
