Heavy to moderate rain lashes Lahore

LAHORE, Jul 09 (APP):Heavy to moderate rain lashed the provincial capital on Wednesday, submerging major roads and localities and prompting a citywide emergency response. The downpour, which occurred in two distinct spells, caused widespread waterlogging and disrupted normal life across Lahore.
According to data released by the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), the highest rainfall was recorded at Nishtar Town (84 mm), followed by Laxmi Chowk (78 mm), Pani Wala Talab (74 mm), Gulberg (69 mm), Qurtaba Chowk (68 mm), and the Airport (67 mm). Other notable figures included Jail Road and Chowk Na Khuda (63 mm each), Mughalpura (60 mm), Iqbal Town (52 mm), Tajpura (51 mm), Upper Mall (50 mm), Farrukhabad (49 mm), Samanabad and Johar Town (39 mm each), and Gulshan Ravi (35 mm).
The Meteorological Department has forecast more rain over the next 24 hours and warned of potential flash floods in local streams and nullahs in Murree, Galliyat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Buner, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, and the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Hill torrents may also affect parts of Dera Ghazi Khan and northeastern Punjab.
Heavy rainfall could also trigger landslides and mudslides in the hilly regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit Baltistan, possibly leading to road closures. Urban flooding is likely in low-lying areas of major cities including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Nowshera, and Peshawar. The public has been advised to exercise caution during the wet spell.
Meteorologists said active monsoon currents are penetrating the upper and central regions of the country, coupled with the influence of a westerly wave.
Widespread rainfall was also reported from several cities including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Khanewal, Murree, Mandi Bahauddin, Mangla, Sheikhupura, Jhelum, Kasur, Sahiwal, Okara, Gujrat, Sialkot, Jhang, Multan, Gujranwala, Bahawalpur, Hafizabad, Attock, Bahawalnagar, and various areas in Azad Kashmir and northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The highest temperature on Wednesday was recorded in Dalbandin at 45°C, while Lahore experienced a relatively cooler day at 31°C.
