PESHAWAR, Jul 29 (APP):Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Advisor Ihtisham Ali has said that the provincial government has initiated practical steps to modernize, sustain, and strengthen basic healthcare services across the province.
He made these remarks while inaugurating a 20kW solarization project at the Rural Health Center (RHC) Regi Lalma here on Tuesday.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Health Secretary Shahidullah, HCIP Project Director Dr. Bilal, senior officials of the health department, local representatives, and members of the community.
Health Advisor Ihtisham Ali shared that under the Health Care Improvement Project (HCIP), 195 Primary Healthcare Facilities, including Category C and D hospitals, will be shifted to solar energy systems within the next six months.
He added that currently, 9 health facilities are undergoing solarization across Peshawar, Nowshera, Swabi, and Haripur. In Peshawar, 3 health facilities, including RHC Regi Lalma, are being solarized in this phase.
He emphasized that the solar system will ensure uninterrupted electricity supply to these facilities, allowing patients to access timely and reliable healthcare services 24/7. This initiative, he said, is not only a major step towards health system resilience but also a contribution to environmental sustainability.
Ihtisham Ali further stated that in the next phase, these health facilities will undergo renovation and be equipped with modern medical equipment, enabling round-the-clock functionality.
Highlighting HCIP’s broader achievements, he informed that Rs. 3.3 billion have been spent so far to improve primary healthcare services across the four districts.
These include Rs. 800 million for providing free medical treatment at Nishtarabad Hospital, Peshawar, Rs. 870 million for deploying security and janitorial staff at BHUs and RHCs, Rs. 720 million for providing free medicines and family planning commodities, Rs. 254 million for training healthcare providers, Rs. 25 million for establishing Health Promoting Schools to raise awareness about hygiene and basic health among children.
He concluded by saying that ensuring free, quality, and uninterrupted health services at the local level remains a top priority of the government, and all available resources are being mobilized to achieve this goal.
