QUETTA, Jul 01 (APP):Governor Balochistan Jaffar Khan Mandokhel on Tuseday said that UNHCR has always provided generous support in the province for provision basic facilities and necessities in health, education and other sectors, which is benefiting Afghan refugees and the local community at the same time.
While expressing special gratitude to UNHCR for converting Civil Hospital, BMC Hospital, Benazir Hospital and Fatima Jinnah Sanatorium etc. in the provincial capital Quetta from conventional electricity to modern solar systems, he said that solarization of major health centers in Quetta would reduce costs, maintain uninterrupted supply of electricity and the money saved in this regard could be spent on other important projects.
He said this while talking to a delegation led by UNHCR Country Director in Pakistan (Ms. Philippa Candler) at the Governor House, Quetta.
UNHCR Provincial Head, Commissioner for Afghan Refugees Arbab Talib was also present in the meeting.
On this occasion, Balochistan Governor Jaffar Khan Mandokhel said that there are extremely poor people living on both sides of the Pak-Afghan border where basic facilities are lacking and especially the maternal mortality rate is very high.
In view of this situation, modern and well-equipped hospitals should be established in the Pak-Afghan border cities of Chaman and Zhob to ensure the provision of essential medical facilities to the poor people living near the border, he said.
He said that the establishment of modern hospitals at these two places could reduce the pressure on the hospitals in Quetta.
The Governor said that providing all facilities to the small but scattered population of Balochistan is a challenge for a government, so all international organizations should use all possible resources to provide basic medical facilities, education and clean water to the poor and deprived people of Balochistan.
