QUETTA, Jul 18 (APP):In a significant development for Balochistan’s healthcare sector, the Balochistan Institute of Nephro-Urology Quetta (BINUQ) has achieved ISO 9001:2015 certification, marking a major leap toward adopting international quality standards in healthcare delivery across the province.
This milestone comes under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Fahim Khan, who assumed charge as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and spearheaded a comprehensive transformation of the institute. A senior officer from the Health Management Cadre of the Government of Balochistan, Dr. Khan is recognized for his integrity, vision, and results-driven administration.
Since his appointment, Dr. Khan and his dedicated team have breathed new life into the institution, converting BINUQ from a dormant hospital into a fully functional, modern, and patient-centered facility, said a news release.
Among the most notable accomplishments is the resumption of renal transplant services after a suspension of 1.5 years, providing renewed hope for patients across Balochistan suffering from end-stage renal disease. Simultaneously, the Health Card Program has been fully reinstated, allowing patients to access free medications, surgical items, laboratory diagnostics, and theater-based procedures.
BINUQ now operates round the clock, with highly trained doctors and consultants available 24/7, including weekend and late-night shifts. The hospital currently performs over 120 dialysis sessions and 15 to 20 major renal surgeries every day, while its Outpatient Department (OPD) serves more than 500 patients daily.
In terms of innovation, the facility has advanced non-invasive kidney stone treatment through lithotripsy machines, relieving around 20 patients daily without surgery. Ultrasound and laboratory diagnostic services are available from early morning until late at night, with all essential reagents and testing facilities running round the clock.
The Emergency Department has expanded from 3 to 9 beds, and the ICU has been upgraded from a 4-bed unit to a 10-bed, state-of-the-art facility. The capacity of general wards has also been significantly increased to accommodate more admitted patients.
A newly renovated OPD wing has been equipped with a Queue Management System to streamline services and minimize crowding. To enhance patient care, a “One Patient, One Attendant” policy has been adopted, maintaining hospital hygiene and safety.
Substantial infrastructure development has taken place, including the completion and takeover of three new buildings from the contractor and the C&W Department.
Contracts for the repair of dialysis machines have been renewed, and the State Life Insurance coverage, previously lapsed since October 2024, has been successfully reactivated.
Additionally, digitalization of hospital operations, long halted, has resumed under the same firm previously contracted, with new momentum. Payments were settled for pending liabilities from 2024, restoring partnerships with medical suppliers and vendors.
BINUQ has also invested in human capital, selecting 27 candidates from across Balochistan for specialized two-year training programs in dialysis, radiology, and laboratory technology, building the next generation of skilled healthcare professionals.
For enhanced patient experience and transparency, a complaint box system has been implemented with immediate redressal procedures. TV information displays have been installed in waiting areas to keep patients informed. Water supply systems have been restored after prolonged dysfunction, and solarization of the facility is currently underway to ensure sustainable energy use.
Enhanced cleanliness and security services have contributed to creating a safe, hygienic, and welcoming environment for patients and their families.
These bold and visionary reforms reflect the commitment of Dr. Fahim Khan, his capable team, and the hospital’s expert medical staff. Under his leadership, BINUQ has emerged as a beacon of excellence, service, and hope for the people of Balochistan.
Dr. Khan’s leadership proves that with strategic direction, integrity, and teamwork, international healthcare standards can not only be envisioned but implemented in even the most remote regions of the country.
