LAHORE, Jul 20 (APP):Pakistan Furniture Council (PFC) Chief Executive Officer Mian Kashif Ashfaq said on Sunday that legal education plays a crucial role in strengthening civil society by promoting awareness of rights, responsibilities, and the rule of law.
Speaking as the chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony of Alley College of Law, he said legal education empowers individuals to understand the justice system, hold institutions accountable, and challenge exploitation and corruption. “An informed society, aware of its constitutional rights, is key to demanding transparent governance and resisting injustice,” he added.
Mian Kashif Ashfaq further noted that law graduates in Pakistan are making vital contributions across various sectors, from the judiciary and legal aid centers to civil rights organizations and policymaking forums. “They are champions of social justice, defending marginalized groups and speaking out against discrimination, abuse of power, and institutional corruption,” he said.
Addressing the ceremony, President of the Lahore High Court Bar Association Malik Asif Nissoana emphasized that legal education not only cultivates critical thinking and ethical values, but also nurtures a culture of dialogue, tolerance, and peaceful conflict resolution. He noted that it plays a significant role in bridging the gap between the public and legal institutions, making laws more accessible and comprehensible.
On the occasion, Prof. Dr. Khalid Mahmood, Pro Vice Chancellor of Punjab University, said that legal education is crucial for upholding democratic principles and the rule of law. “Fresh law graduates are welcome additions to the legal fraternity, and by producing well-educated, principled, and socially responsible professionals, our institutions can contribute to transforming society,” he added.
