Emergency measures, drainage repairs, 24/7 monitoring ordered in Matiari ahead of monsoon rains

HYDERABAD, Jul 08 (APP):Deputy Commissioner/Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority Matiari Muhammad Yousif Shaikh on Tuesday directed officials of all concerned departments to make proper arrangements to deal with the situation during and after the monsoon rains so that the public does not face any hardship.
He gave these instructions while presiding over a meeting of the District Disaster Management Committee held at Latif Hall Matiari, convened to finalize the pre-monsoon preparedness plan.
During the meeting, he directed assistant commissioners of the district, officials of the public health engineering department and town officers to improve the drainage systems in urban areas, remove encroachments from drainage channels and ensure proper cleaning. He also emphasized the repair of broken water supply and sewage lines to prevent water from accumulating on roads.
The Deputy Commissioner directed health officials to enforce an emergency at district hospitals and rural/basic health centers during the rains, cancel the leaves of doctors and paramedical staff and ensure the availability of life-saving medicines, particularly vaccines for snake bites and rabid dog bites in sufficient quantities.
He also ordered that all ambulances be kept ready at all times,  emergency measures must be taken to deal with diseases arising due to rains, and anti-mosquito spray should be conducted every morning and evening during the monsoon to prevent malaria.
HESCO officials were directed to remain active in the field during rains and take immediate steps to restore any fallen electric wires or poles, as many deaths during the rainy season occur due to electrocution. He made clear that no negligence will be tolerated in this matter.
He also directed the irrigation officials to strengthen weak points along the Indus River embankments and set up watch posts at sensitive and vulnerable points to ensure 24/7 monitoring.
DC directed Rescue 1122 officials to remain prepared at all times to respond to any emergency situation and take immediate action in case of any untoward incident.
The meeting also reviewed the emergency plan, current and expected water flow in the Indus River during the monsoon, the condition of sensitive points on the embankments, the status of flood-fighting equipment and machinery, and the operational condition of water drainage machines in urban and rural low-lying areas.
It was also decided in the meeting that a control room will be established at the Deputy Commissioner’s office, which will operate 24/7. All departmental representatives gave detailed briefings regarding their respective department’s performance.
