PESHAWAR, Jul 24 (APP): Federal Minister for Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety, Syed Imran Ahmad Shah here on Thursday visited the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Regional Office where he reviewed the ongoing projects.
He reiterated the federal government’s commitment to providing transparent, effective and people-friendly services to the poor people.
Director General BISP Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Haider Murtaza, gave a detailed briefing to the federal minister.
The minister was informed that BISP is operational in 34 districts and 64 tehsils of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with established offices in these areas and are providing services to people.
Under the Benazir Kafalat Programme, 1,987,047 individuals in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are receiving financial assistance.
Federal Minister Syed Imran Ahmad Shah was told that through the Benazir Taleemi Wazaif Programme, school enrollment of over 3,058,263 children has been ensured and literacy rate has improved in the country. The Benazir Nashonuma Programme is focusing on the nutritional needs of mothers and children and providing assistance to lactating mothers to eradicate stunting in malnourished children. While under the Benazir Hunarmand Programme, youth are being empowered through vocational training, and emphasis is being placed on the prompt resolution of complaints from beneficiaries.
The federal minister appreciated the dedication and hard work of the BISP Khyber Pakhtunkhwa team and paid tribute to their services in the field of social safety.
On this occasion, Minister Syed Imran Ahmed Shah stated that the government is taking comprehensive measures to lift people out of poverty and enable them to live dignified life.
For this purpose, a budget of 700 billion rupees has been allocated, which will be spent on their social safety and welfare.
He said the federal government is committed about poverty allievation and that he has started his nationwide visits from Peshawar, with the aim of personally overseeing BISP and his ministry’s projects and services on ground.
He emphasized that the true service to the country involves curbing menace of corruption and helping the needy.
A total of 716 billion rupees has been allocated for the BISP programme, which will be used to serve the people.
He further said that challenges in underdeveloped districts will be addressed, and assistance will be provided to flood-affected areas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
In the next phase, he plans to visit Balochistan. He emphasized his commitment to eradicating poverty wherever it exists and stated that youth are being trained under the Hunarmand Programme to become self-reliant and contribute in the country’s devolopment process.
Imran Shah said the youth irrespective of politcal affiliations are being provided training up to international standards so that they do not face difficulties in finding employment abroad in the future.
