More Pre-Monsoon rains likely by next week: PMD

ISLAMABAD, Jun 17 (APP): The weather would remain hot and dry during the weekend and more Pre-Monsoon rains are likely by the next week according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

Senior Meteorologist at PMD, Farooq Dar told APP that more Pre-Monsoon shower are likely during the next week in different parts of the country especially in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He said mainly hot and dry weather would prevail in most parts of the country during this weekend with chances of rain in Kashmir and surrounding areas.

Farooq Dar said there are chances of rain-thunderstorm in different parts of the country on July 19 evening and July 20 morning.

Again there are also chances of rain-thunderstorm in upper Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from July 21 to July 24, Farooq Dar said.

According to the synoptic analysis, a low pressure was lying over central parts of the country with its trough extending south-eastward.

Weak moist currents from Arabian sea were still penetrating eastern parts of the country and likely to continue during next two days.

Westerly wave was still affecting Kashmir and its adjoining areas.

The rainfall recorded during the last 24 hours was Punjab (Lahore 48 mm, Lahore Airport 29, Jhelum 34,Mandibahauddin 14, Rawalpindi 01;Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Mirkhani 09, Dir, Kalam, Parachinar 07), Lower Dir, Drosh 02; Kashmir, Muzaffarabad 05; Gilgit-Baltistan: Hunza, Astore 03 and Gilgit 01mm.

The highest maximum temperatures recorded during the last 24 hours was Dadu, Mohenjodarro, Sibbi, Larkana 48 C, Shaheed Benazirabad 47 C, Sukkur 46 C, Turbat, Padidan and Rohri 45 C.
