ISLAMABAD, June 30 (APP): Met Office on Thursday forecast strong monsoon currents likely to penetrate in upper parts of the country in next 48 hours.
A fresh westerly wave is also expected to approach upper parts of the country on Saturday.
Under the influence of these meteorological conditions, widespread down pour is expected in different parts of the country at weekend which would continue till Monday, an official of Met office told APP.
He said in Punjab widespread rain-thundershowers with isolated heavy falls accompanied by strong gusty winds are expected in Islamabad and Upper Punjab in Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sargodha, Faisalabad divisions from Saturday to Monday.
Scattered rain-thundershowers with isolated heavy falls are also expected in central and South Punjab at Multan, Sahiwal, DG Khan and Bahawalpur divisions during the period.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) widespread rain-thundershowers with isolated heavy falls accompanied by strong gusty winds are expected in Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat, Bannu, DI Khan divisions during this time span.
In Kashmir widespread rain with thundershowers with isolated heavy falls are expected in Muzaffarabad, Mirpur, Poonch divisions during the said period.
Likewise, widespread rain-thundershowers with isolated heavy falls accompanied by strong gusty winds are expected in FATA at Khurram, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, North and South Agencies and Gilgit Baltistan.
Monsoon rain coupled with glacier-melt water may result in outburst of some glacial lakes in Chitral, Gilgit, Ghizer and Shigar areas, he informed.
Met office also warned that heavy downpour may generate urban flooding in big cities and in vulnerable areas of Punjab and KP from Saturday to Monday so all concerned authorities are advised to remain alert during the period.
For next 24 hours Met office forecast rain/dust-thundershower with isolated heavy falls accompanied by strong gusty winds at scattered places in Malakand, Hazara, Mardan, Kohat, Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore divisions, FATA, Islamabad and Kashmir while hot and humid weather to prevail during day time.
In last 24 hours rain-thundershower with gusty winds occurred at scattered places in Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur, Quetta, Makran divisions and FATA. Weather remained hot and humid elsewhere in the country.
Rainfall recorded during last 24 hours remained Karachi Faisal 34mm, Landhi 28mm, Saddar 15mm, Gulistan-e-Johar 14mm, Airport 13mm,
Gushan-e-Hadid 10mm, Masroor 05mm, Mirpurkhas 27mm, Shaheed Benazirabad 18mm, Hyderabad 16mm, Nagerparker 11mm, Badin 07mm, Mithi, Thatta 05mm, Parachinar 31mm, Panjgur 07mm and Quetta 06mm.
Maximum temperatures recorded on Thursday were Dadu 44 C, Turbat, Sibbi, Nokkundi, Dalbandin, KotAddu, Kohat, Chillas 43 C, Islamabad 40 C, Lahore 39 C, Karachi 35 C, Peshawar 41 C, Quetta 35 C, Gilgit 37 C, Chitral 36 C, Hunza 31 C, Muzaffarabad 37 C, Murree 26 C, Skardu 33 C, Faisalabad 38 C, Multan 41 C, Hyderabad 37 C, Dir 35 C and Kalat 31 C.
