BAHAWALPUR, Jul 13 (APP):Torrential monsoon rains lashed Bahawalpur city and its surrounding areas from Friday night into Saturday, leading to a significant disruption in the sewerage system. The downpour transformed roads and streets into channels resembling canals.
Heavy rainfall during this period resulted in the accumulation of water on major thoroughfares, including Fareed Gate, Circular Road, Chowk Fawara, Satellite Town, Commercial Area, and the Railway Station area. Reports indicated that several mud houses in slum areas either collapsed or sustained damage due to the intense downpours.
The rainwater inundated homes and shops in downtown areas, exacerbating the situation. It has been noted that during recent meetings of the district management, it was reported that shopkeepers often discard garbage into the drains outside their establishments. This negligence has led to blockages, further contributing to the accumulation of rainwater on the roads.
In response to the crisis, teams from the Municipal Corporation Bahawalpur, District Council Bahawalpur, and the Bahawalpur Waste Management Company worked tirelessly to drain the excess water from the streets. De-watering machines were also deployed to assist in alleviating the flooding,
