Zaman urges squash players to improve physical fitness

ISLAMABAD, Nov 30 (APP): Former World Champion Qamar Zaman has advised
Pakistan tennis players to improve their physical fitness level as that is the key to earn a spot among world’s top tennis players.
“Our players are highly talented but they lack the type of training we used to undergo during our days. We used to spend at least six hours in training and courts everyday. That was the secret of our being best in the game”, he told APP. He said that current national players needed to know what a World Champion was and what sort of efforts were required to achieve that glory.”I urge players spend more and more time in the courts and on
improving their physical fitness,” he said.Zaman, who would accompany Pakistan team as manager in the upcoming WSF Men’s World Squash Team Championship, scheduled to be held in Egypt, said at present no Pakistan player seemed to match up the capabilities of Squash legends Jansher Khan and Jahangir Khan.
Speaking about the Squash Team Championship, he said players Nasir
Iqbal, Farhan Zaman and Danish Atlas were working hard for the event and
were in good shape. “I cannot say that we will win the event but
hopefully will comeback with good results,” he said.
To a question about Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF), he said it was
doing its level best for the players but it was time to hunt for U12, U14 and U15 players from all over the
country and prepare them for future.
“The talent comes forward from this age group,” he said adding that
he was sure Pakistan would get a World Champion from this age group.
