LAHORE, Oct 13 (APP): The former test cricketer Wazir Muhammad, affectionately known as ‘Wisden’ for his encyclopedic knowledge of cricket stats and trivia, passed away in the United Kingdom (UK) on Monday. He was 95.
He was the 3rd oldest living test cricketer after Neil harvey 97 and trevor McMahon 95 yrs 339 days.
Wazir was a determined middle-order batsman with a strong defence. His highest Test score was 189 scored in the fifth Test against the West Indies at Port of Spain in 1957-58. He batted for six and three-quarter hours and laid the foundation of Pakistan’s innings victory.
He was part of the team which won the Oval test against England in 1954.
Chairman PCB Mohsin Naqvi has expressed deep sorrow and grief over the sad demise of a wonderful cricketer who served Pakistan Cricket well.
Naqvi prayed to Allah Almighty for the highest ranks in Jannat for the departed soul.
