ISLAMABAD, Nov 29 (APP): Elated at successfully defending his World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver Flyweight title boxer Muhammad Waseem has expressed the resolve to continue the winning streak in future.

“I’m eying more wins in the future. If I’m given proper support I can bring more laurels for the country,” he told APP on Wednesday.

The 29-year old, who returned home on late Tuesday after defeating Philippine’s Giemel Magramo in Sunday’s fight at Seoul, South Korea said that he was proud at the achievement.

“It gives me a lot of pleasure and satisfaction that I raised country’s name in the boxing arena,” he said.

Wasim outplayed his much-seasoned opponent in a thrilling 12-round fight with a 3-0 unanimous decision. Magramo conceded first defeat after 17 consecutive wins.

“My opponent was an experienced fighter. It was not an easy bout but thank God I managed to defeat him.

“I’m receiving a lot of appreciation from my fans. They supported me at every occasion and the only way to repay them was to win,” Waseem, who is also known as Falcon Khan added.

The Quetta-born boxer, who turned pro in October last year, thanked the owner of franchise Peshawar Zalmi of Pakistan Super League (PSL) Javed Afridi for announcing to support him and sponsor his upcoming bouts.

“I’m really grateful to him. I needed someone from my country to back my endeavours. And the way he came forward to support me is highly commendable,” he said.
