Trinity Pearls beat Trinity Queens in softball tournament

KARACHI, Nov 15 (APP): In an exciting encounter, the Trinity Pearls defeated Trinity Queens by one run in the opening encounter of the Third Mrs Irene Pearl School and College Softball Championship here on Tuesday.
The championship is being played here at the Trinity College Ground in collaboration with the Sindh Softball Association (SSA).
The Pearls team scored seven runs in three innings as against the six by the Queens.
The captain of the winners, Aisha Ishtiaq and her team mate, Bushra Javed, both scored twice whereas Hafsa, Babita and Mariam scored one run each.
From the Queens Sheral scored twice while Bisma, Muskan, Zarlesh and Maliha scored one run each.
Trinity College Principal Irene Pearl inaugurated the Championship by hitting the ball.
She said on the occasion that Softball is gaining popularity in the country with the passage of time thank mainly to the efforts put in by the Softball Federation of Pakistan (SFP) and those of SSA.
She further stated that it is matter of pride that one of the students of Trinity College, Aisha Ishtiaq, has been selected in the national softball team.
Secretary General of SFP, Asif Azeem, said that efforts are main made to hunt and groom the new talent in this very game.
This championship is also a part of such a strategy, he further pointed out.
He said that SFP would continue to collaborate with academic institutions to hold more such events.
General Secretary SSA, Muhammad Zeeshan Merchant,said that Karachi is the nursery of softball in the country.
He said that SSA will also organize such events in other cities in the province.
