PESHAWAR, Oct 09 (APP):District Sports Officer Dir Upper Mukhtiar Hussain has said that the trials of the Under-16 and Under-19 categories for short-listing players for Cricket Academy of the district will be held on October 12 and 14 respectively.
He said all arrangements in this connection have already been made for the smooth conduct of the trials wherein first class cricketer Javed Khan has been nominated as chief selector. He would assist Jamil Babar, Muhammad Zada, Javed Ali, and Royal Shakir.
He also thanked Director General Sports KP Junaid Khan and Deputy Commissioner Dir Upper Irfan Ullah Mehsud and District Nazim Sahibzada Fassih Ullah for extending all out support in setting up the first
cricket academy in the district. He disclosed that Dir Upper was now producing players at national and international levels.
He said Dir Upper was a key district of the Pakistan Cricket Board and that was why Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) also agreed in extending support to the distric academy. He said the academy, having three wickets with all facilities, would impart best available training to the players of Dir Upper.
Dir Upper District has a good name in the PCB because of winning the National Under-19 Cricket
Championship in 2012 and remained runners-up next year in PCB Inter-District U-19
Cricket Championship.
He said Dir Upper have produced players like all-rounder Kamran Ghulam who represented Pakistan in the International U-19 and another player Salman Saeed, a medium pacer, played the Asia Cup recently while Adil Naz selected for the Pakistan Under-16 team that tour Australia.
He said Deputy Commissioner Irfan Ullah Mehsud and District Nazim Sahibzada Fassih Ullah were very keen in supporting the Academy.
Mukhtiar Hussain, himself remained a first class cricketer and now a qualified level-I coach and organizer, said that the selected players would be given full uniform besides other facilities while
playing in the academy.
He said as desired by Director General Sports Junaid Khan, the trials would be conducted in fair, free and transparent manners so that genuine players would come up and represent Dir Upper in national and international teams after getting training and coaching under qualified coaches.
