PESHAWAR, Apr 02 (APP):Swat clinched the overall trophy
after winning eight gold medals and three silver medals in the Khyber
Pakhtunkhwa Swat Region Inter-District Male Games which concluded here at Makan
Bagh Sports Complex ground on Monday.
Swat obtained 111 points after securing first position in
Tug-of-War, Boxing, Handball, Hockey, Athletics, Table Tennis, Basketball and
Badminton and took silver medal in Squash, Judo and Kabaddi.
Dir Upper claimed second position after winning three
gold medals, 5 silver medals by recording 72 points. Dir Lower got third
position. Dir Lower took third with one gold medal in volleyball and silver
medal in handball, baseball and basketball.
In the Table Tennis Swat defeated Chitral by taking first
position, in Judo Swat got seven gold and one silver while Dir Upper took
second position with one gold and five silver medals while Dir Lower took third
position with three silver medals.
In Karate Swat won first position after securing 72
points, followed by Dir Upper 55 points, Dir Lower got 37 points and Shangla
got 21 points with fourth position. In the Tug of War Dir Lower won the battle after
defeating Dir Upper in the final, Swat took third position while Chitral got
fourth position.
In the Tennis Shangla shocked Swat in the final, Dir
Upper got third position and Dir Lower remained at fourth while Chitral got at
fifth.
Israr of Swat was declared best
athlete when he won gold medal in long jump, 200m and 400m while Swat District
won the overall trophy of the Athletics. Swat grabbed six gold medals, five
silver medals, followed Dir Upper with one gold medal and one silver medal
while Dir Lower took one silver medal and one bronze medal. Chitral did not get
any point.
In the Discus throw Ismail of Dir Upper won gold medal,
followed by Lukman of Swat and Kalim Ullah Shangla grabbed bronze medal. In the long jump Israr of Swat won gold medal, Ismail of
Dir Upper won silver medal and Shahbaz Dir Lower got bronze medals, in the 400m
race Israr of Swat won gold medal, Ismail of Dir Upper secured silver medal and
Gul Afzal of Shangla, in the javelin throw Danish of Swat won gold medal,
followed by Imran of Dir Lower and Zafar Ali of Dir Lower.
In the 200m Israr
won gold medal, followed by Ismail of Dir Upper and Sajid Ullah of Chitral, in
the shot put Yousaf of Swat won gold medal, followed by Akbar of Dir Upper and
Yasir of Shangla while in the 100m Jabbar Khan of Swat won gold medal and was
also declared fastest athlete, Waseem of Dir Lower and Javid Ali of Dir Upper. In
the dramatically ended kabaddi final Dir Upper defeated Swat in a closely
contestant encounter, the score was 45-44. Dir Lower took third position.
At the end, the chief guest MPA Fazal-e-Hakim, Director
Operation Syed Saqlain Shah, Director Sports Niamat Ullah, Director Development Salim Raza, Director Games Munir Abbas President KP Badminton Association Zafar Ali Khan gave away
trophies and cash prize of Rs. 20,000 to the winner and Rs. 15000 to the
runners-up team.
Speaking on this occasion, MPA Fazal-e-Hakim lauded the
organizing committee for holding such a mega event by involving 11500 male and
female players from all across the province. He said this is for the first time
that such a large number of athletes have been opportunity to play. The event
was organized at Makan Bagh Sports Complex, Swat Contigental, Khapal Kor Model
School, Swat Sports Complex Saidu Sharif. He said the govt is very keen to
provide equal opportunities to both male and female. He urged upon the players
to continue their hard working so that they could come up and represent
Pakistan in the international events.
