Sports Policy to be formed: IPC Minister

ISLAMABAD, Sep 03 (APP):Federal Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination Dr. Fehmida Mirza Monday said to form a National Sports Policy following consultation with all the stakeholders is government’s top priority.
The Federal Minister was addressing as chief guest at the launching ceremony of Tree Plantation Campaign here at Pakistan Sports Complex where she also planted a sapling.
The Minister said that the campaign is the part of Prime Minister’s Tree Plantation drive which started on Sunday.
Speaking about the National Sports Policy, she said media will also be taken into confidence while forming the National Sports Policy. “The present government is committed for the promotion of sports in the country and we will have to work together to uplift sports and culture in order to build soft image of Pakistan at international level,” she said.
The Federal Minister said that sports is as important as education as healthy body contains healthy mind. “Sports must be taken as a subject as it has been ignored in the past,” she said. She said that we have to take our country towards betterment especially in the field of sports. She also urged media to play its role for the promotion of sports in the country by airing at least one-hour sports programs on daily basis.
The Federal Minister said the government wanted to revive sports in the country, adding that we will revive our national game hockey.
Responding to a question regarding poor show of the national contingent in the Asian Games, she said we have a meeting on Thursday in which we will discuss all matters related to sports.
