Sports a top priority of Punjab government: Sports Board DG

LAHORE, Oct 19 (APP): Sports Board Punjab Director General Zulfiqar Ahmed Ghumman Wednesday said that sports had always been a top priority of the Punjab government and a fund of Rs 5,000 million had been allocated for completion of sports projects in the province.

He was talking to the media at National Hockey Stadium at the inaugural ceremony of Inter-School Hockey Tournament, being organised under the auspices of Dar Hockey Academy.

He said that the fund would be utilised for initiating new and completing under-construction sports projects. He said that the Punjab government was focusing on promotion of sports in the province.

Ghumman said that the under-construction sports facilities in Nishtar Park Sports Complex will be completed in near future. “The astro-turf issue of National Hockey Stadium is also under discussion and we are trying to resolve it in an appropriate way,” he added.

Replying a query, the director general said that the government was also making a system to patronise clubs, which are working in an effective manner. He also lauded Dar
Hockey Academy for imparting modern training to young hockey players.

Earlier, Olympian Tauqir Dar received the director general upon arriving at the National Hockey Stadium and all the teams were introduced to him before the start of the
play.
