FAISALABAD, Nov 03 (APP):South Africa’s cricket team captain, Matthew Bretzke, expressed confidence in his team’s readiness for the upcoming One-Day International (ODI) series against Pakistan, acknowledging that while the series would be a challenging contest, his side is well-prepared thanks to the strong support of senior players and the growing understanding of local conditions.
Speaking at a post-media press briefing in Faisalabad, Bretzke praised Pakistan’s hospitality and said his team was eager to adapt and perform well in the three-match series starting on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at Iqbal Stadium.
“The ODI series will be a real test for us. We are learning a lot from the local conditions here and improving our approach accordingly. Weather and pitch conditions will play a key role in deciding whether we bat or bowl first, and we’ll make that call based on the situation on match day,” Bretzke said.
The South African captain acknowledged that transitioning from the T20 format to the 50-over game posed a different challenge. “After the T20 series, this ODI series is a new test for us. In T20s, bowling second was difficult because of the dew, but we have made better plans this time and will try to execute them effectively,” he added.
Bretzke emphasized the importance of maintaining composure under pressure. “There will definitely be pressure in the ODIs, but our goal is to play disciplined cricket by building partnerships, avoiding early wickets, and maintaining momentum throughout the innings,” he noted.
On his team’s strategy, Bretzke said decisions regarding whether to bowl or bat would depend on the morning weather and pitch conditions. “We’ll assess everything before the toss. The final playing XI will also be decided tomorrow morning after consulting with the management,” he confirmed.
The South African skipper also expressed satisfaction with the team environment and the experience of his senior players. “I have full confidence in my senior players. Their guidance and performance will be crucial for us to do well in this series,” he added.
Bretzke commended Pakistan for its excellent arrangements and enthusiastic crowds. “The hospitality has been wonderful, and we are looking forward to exciting cricket in Faisalabad. It is always great to play in front of passionate fans,” he said.
