Shahnaz Hockey Stadium to host first match on Monday

ISLAMABAD, Feb 04 (APP):The Shahnaz Sheikh Hockey Stadium Rawalpindi is all set to host the first match on Monday (February 5) in order to mark the Kashmir Solidarity Day.
Talking to APP, Olympian Shahnaz Sheikh said the match will be played between teams of Olympian Manzoor Jr eleven and Olympian Shahnaz Sheikh eleven.
“A women’s team match will also be played on Monday,” he said and added Chairman Steering Committee Sports Board Punjab Hanif Abbasi will be the chief guest on the occasion.
Shahnaz said an academy for both male and female players will also be established at the Stadium in collaboration with Sports Board Punjab (SBP).
“Punjab government, PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi and SBP have been a great help in establishing the hockey stadium and hopefully we want to open the academy under their umbrella,” he said.
He also thanked Punjab government, SBP and Hanif Abbasi for their utmost efforts to encourage and promote the game of hockey in Rawalpindi.
It may be mentioned here that the whole stadium project is worth Rs 149 million and has a sitting capacity of 50,000.
