KARACHI, Jun 18 (APP): Senior Sports journalist, broadcaster and international Cricket analyst Qamar Ahmed passed away here on Thursday. He was 89.
According to family, Qamar Ahmed was suffering from a heart ailment and had been unwell for some days. His death has triggered widespread grief across journalistic, cricket, and sports circles.
Qamar Ahmed was considered among Pakistan’s early and most prominent cricket journalists. During his long career, he covered more than 400 Test matches and over 600 One-Day Internationals, along with reporting on several ICC events.
Born on October 23, 1937, in the United Province (UP), India, he achieved an international reputation in sports journalism. He also spent a long period in England, where he was widely respected as a keen cricket analyst. He was also affiliated with BBC and other international media outlets.
Alongside journalism, he also played first-class cricket, appearing in 17 matches and even captaining the Hyderabad team in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy.
He was regarded among the world’s leading cricket writers and analysts, with his reporting and analysis highly valued by fans and experts alike.
His funeral prayer was offered after Maghrib prayer at Masjid Bait-ul-Salam in DHA Phase 4, Karachi.
He was a writer of several books on Cricket and also authored an autobiography “For More Than a Game”.
