FAISALABAD, Oct 05 (APP): A composed 48-run match-winning knock by wicketkeeper-batter Sanjana Kavindi De Silva powered Sri Lanka Women U19 to a thrilling four-wicket victory over Bangladesh Women U19 in the ongoing Women’s Tri-Nation Series at Iqbal Stadium Faisalabad on Monday.
Put into bat after winning the toss, Bangladesh Women U19 posted 119 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Their innings was anchored by Sadia Islam who struck an aggressive 39 off 22 balls including four boundaries and two sixes.
Nishita Akter Nishi contributed 26 off 35 balls while Achena Jannat Emanta and Sadia Akter scored 16 and 18 runs respectively to help Bangladesh set Sri Lanka a target of 120 runs.
Sri Lanka’s bowlers kept the Bangladesh batting under pressure throughout the innings, with Aseni Thalagune delivering an economical spell of four overs for just 12 runs and taking two wickets. Chamodi Herath also claimed two wickets for 20 runs while Danodhya Sewmini and Pramudi Methsara took one wicket apiece.
Chasing 120, Sri Lanka reached the target in 20 overs after losing six wickets, securing a hard-fought four-wicket victory.
Sanjana Kavindi De Silva emerged as the key figure in Sri Lanka’s successful chase, producing a confident 48 off 46 balls with four fours and two sixes. Her timely innings provided the stability Sri Lanka needed during the tense run chase.
Vimoksha Balasuriya also made a valuable contribution, scoring 21 off 26 balls.
For Bangladesh, Nishita Akter Nishi claimed two wickets for 26 runs from her four overs while Farjana Easmin Medha and Afrin Mim took one wicket each.
Sanjana Kavindi De Silva was declared “Player of the Match” for her decisive batting performance that guided Sri Lanka to victory in the closely contested encounter.
