Quetta hosts ‘Run for Fun’ marathon as part of Independence Day celebrations

QUETTA, Aug 09 (APP): On the special instructions of Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti, Independence Day festivities continue across the province with a series of cultural and sporting events. As part of these celebrations, the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs Balochistan organized a marathon titled “Run for Fun” in the provincial capital.
More than 100 young athletes enthusiastically participated in the race, which began at Airport Road and concluded at Ayub Sports Complex. The event drew praise from citizens and sports circles alike, who welcomed the initiative as a healthy and positive activity for youth engagement.
In the competition, athlete Ainullah secured first position, Rahim came second, and Muhammad Akram finished third. Medals and cash prizes were distributed among the winners. The ceremony was attended by Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs Durra Baloch, Director General Sports and Youth Affairs Dr. Yasar Bazai, departmental officers, athletes, and a large number of citizens.
Speaking on the occasion, Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs department Durra Baloch said that nearly 40 different sporting competitions are being held at Ayub Sports Complex and other venues in Quetta as part of the Independence Day program. He emphasized that the purpose of organizing the “Run for Fun” marathon was to encourage youth and citizens toward healthy activities, noting that sports not only promote physical fitness but also instill discipline, tolerance, positive thinking, and constructive attitudes among young people.
He further highlighted that under the directives of the Chief Minister, a mega sports festival has been launched across Balochistan.
The festival includes 10 games at the district headquarters level, 12 games at the divisional level, and 40 competitions in Quetta. Durra Baloch added that these activities will continue even after August 14 to provide maximum opportunities for youth participation and to offer talented athletes a strong platform to showcase their skills.
