ISLAMABAD, Oct 28 (APP):The Prime Minister Youth Programme-Qalandars Provincial Cricket League has officially commenced in Quetta, marking the beginning of a landmark national cricket initiative aimed at discovering and nurturing young talent from across Pakistan.
The opening phase of the league, being held from October 27 to 31 at the Bugti Stadium, Quetta, features five teams representing Quetta, Turbat, Khuzdar, Loralai, and Dera Murad Jamali. Players for these teams were selected through open merit-based trials conducted across Balochistan, ensuring that every talented cricketer received an equal opportunity to participate, said a press release.
The league forms part of the broader Prime Minister’s Youth Programme (PMYP), which seeks to build a structured and sustainable pathway for emerging cricketers. The initiative emphasises grassroots development, providing young players with professional exposure and competitive experience through organised provincial tournaments.
Following the successful start in Balochistan, the league will expand to Sindh, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and the Federal Capital, continuing the nationwide talent hunt and offering aspiring cricketers from all regions a platform to showcase their skills.
The long-term vision of the programme is to create a continuous pipeline of talent for Pakistan’s domestic and national cricket structure. Through ongoing coaching, mentorship, and structured competition, the league aims to not only identify potential stars but also help them evolve into professional athletes capable of representing Pakistan on the international stage.
By combining sports development with youth engagement, the PM Youth Programme envisions the Provincial Cricket League as a unifying force, strengthening the bond between regions and inspiring the next generation to pursue excellence through sport.
