ISLAMABAD, Jun 08 (APP):Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) and Pakistan Arab Refinery Company (PARCO) on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), aimed at supporting the federation’s nationwide coaching education programme, a key initiative designed to revive hockey and strengthen grassroots development across the country.
The MoU was signed by PHF President Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani and Managing Director PARCO Irteza Ali Qureshi.
Under the two-year agreement, PARCO will provide financial assistance of Rs100 million to the PHF for conducting coaching education programmes, professional training of coaches and other hockey development activities across the country. The partnership will also support the provision of stipends to coaches working under the federation’s nationwide coaching framework.
Speaking on the occasion, the PHF President said the partnership would provide crucial financial support for the federation’s National Coaching Initiative, enabling the PHF to enhance the capacity and skills of hockey coaches nationwide.
“We are grateful to PARCO and its leadership for supporting this important initiative,” Wani said.
“One of the major challenges facing Pakistan hockey is the shortage of qualified coaches. Through this programme, we aim to equip coaches with modern training methods and provide them with the support they need to effectively train young players.”
He said the PHF was committed to ensuring that a lack of resources would not become an obstacle to the revival of the national game.
“We will continue to seek support from both the public and private sectors to create opportunities for our youth. Our objective is to build a strong foundation for hockey, and we are confident that our young players will make the nation proud in the years ahead,” he added.
Addressing the ceremony, PARCO Chairman Board of Directors said it was an honour for the company to be associated with an initiative aimed at restoring Pakistan hockey’s lost glory.
“Hockey was one of the sports that brought immense pride to Pakistan and earned international recognition for the country. We all know the challenges the sport has faced over the years. If financial support can contribute to its revival, PARCO is ready to play its role,” he said.
The chairman noted that the proposal was brought to the company’s attention by PHF officials and received positive support from PARCO’s management.
“This partnership reflects our commitment to national development through sports. We believe that investing in coaching and youth development is the right path towards rebuilding Pakistan’s hockey legacy,” he said.
He expressed optimism that the collaboration would help nurture young talent and create a sustainable pathway for future success at the international level.
He also reaffirmed PARCO’s commitment to corporate social responsibility initiatives, including support for sports, health and community development programmes, and pledged continued cooperation with the PHF in its efforts to promote hockey across the country.
