PG Dept. University of Peshawar win Inter-College Games overall trophy

PESHAWAR, Feb 07 (APP):Post Graduate Department University of Peshawar clinched the overall trophy by securing 74 points after
winning eight gold medals in different disciplines of the University of
Peshawar Inter-College Games which concluded here at University Campus ground
on Wednesday.
Former World Champion Qamar Zaman was the chief guest on
this occasion. Professor Dr. Hizbullah, Chairman Environmental Science,
University of Peshawar, Professor Dr. Ishaq, founder member of the University
College, President Sports Committee Professor Muhammad Saeed Khan, Secretary
General AIPs Asia Amjad Aziz Malik, Director General Sports and former
international athlete Bahre Karam, AD Saleem Khan, players and large number of
spectators were also present.
Post Graduate Department University of Peshawar secured
gold medal in volleyball, tennis, table tennis, hockey, football, cricket,
badminton and gold silver medals in athletics, basketball and third position in
Kabaddi by securing 74 points, followed by Government College Peshawar with 54
points after winning gold medals in handball, basketball while silver medals in
badminton, hockey, kabaddi, squash, table tennis, tennis, tug of war and
volleyball.
Govt Degree College Matra with 19 points by winning gold
medal in athletic and got third positions in badminton, handball, squash, and
volleyball. A total of 30 affiliated colleges too, part in 13 different games
including athletics. Edwards College Peshawar took 9 points after securing
third position in basketball, table tennis and tennis. Govt College for
Commerce and Management Science Charsadda won gold medal in tug of war, Govt
Superior Science College Peshawar won gold medal in Kabaddi. Govt College
Badaber secured third position in hockey and tug of war, Govt Degree College
Landikotal secured silver medal in cricket.
In Athletic Meet, Government College Matra won the
overall trophy for the first time in the Games history after securing 62 points
and two of the promising athletes Muhammad Asif and Nouman was the key
contributors.
Muhammad Asif, who was declared best athlete of the
Year-2017-18, secured 48 after winning gold medals in 400m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m,
and got silver medal in 100m and 200m and bronze medal in 110 hurdles, Nouman
got gold medal in 100m, and 200m. Hamza Akhtar of PG Dept. won gold medal in
110m hurdles, high jump and silver medal long jump and high jump. He secured 24
points and overall remained second for the best athlete position. Mohib Ullah
of PGU won gold medal in shot put and javelin throw while bronze medal in
discus throw.
Speaking on this occasion, Qamar Zaman lauded the
organizing committee for organizing the event on regular basis. He said sports
is vital for bringing youth to healthy activities and certainly more talent
would come up at national and international levels.
He said University of Peshawar will be the first
educational institution wherein there will be international standard four-glass
walls facilities. He said soon after completion of the most awaited project of
the four-glass wall squash complex in the Directorate of Sports University of
Peshawar we would organize international squash events.
