Peshawar players’ success in Asian Junior Squash Championship sparks celebrations

PESHAWAR, Jun 21 (APP):A wave of joy has swept through squash circles in Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and across Pakistan following the remarkable success of two young players from Peshawar in the Asian Junior Squash Championship.
After a long gap, Pakistan has achieved major victories in the Under-15 and Under-17 categories of the Asian Junior Squash Championship.
According to details, in the final of the Under-15 category at the Asian Junior Squash Championship held in China, Pakistan’s young player Ahmad Rayan Khalil, who belongs to Peshawar, defeated Malaysia’s Vedoran Rotheran by 3-0 to claim the prestigious title of Asian Under-15 Champion.
In the Under-17 category, Pakistan’s Nauman Khan defeated India’s Shiven Agarwal by 3-0 to secure the valuable honour of becoming the Asian Under-17 Champion.
Pakistan won two gold medals in the individual competitions.
Meanwhile, former world champion Qamar Zaman and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Squash Association President Dawood Khan expressed their delight over the outstanding performance of the Peshawar-based players in the Asian Junior Squash Championship.
Dawood Khan said that despite limited resources, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Squash Association has been organizing squash tournaments on a monthly basis to provide young players with the best possible opportunities to compete.
He said this consistent effort was the reason why two young players from Peshawar returned home as Asian champions.
Dawood Khan congratulated all office-bearers of the association and both Asian champions on their brilliant performance.
He expressed confidence that the two players would continue to achieve further success in the future.
Former world squash champion Qamar Zaman described the victories of Ahmad Rayan Khalil and Nauman Khan as extremely important for the revival and promotion of squash in Pakistan.
He said the encouraging results of grassroots-level training in Peshawar had now begun to emerge, and he hoped that players from Peshawar would continue to deliver outstanding performances in the future.
Qamar Zaman said the provincial government must come forward to support the development of squash. He pointed out that the association has not received its annual grant for the past six years, yet the success of young players at the Asian level is nothing less than a miracle.
Qamar Zaman congratulated both players on becoming Asian champions and reaffirmed that the provincial squash association, under the leadership of its President Dawood Khan, would continue its efforts for the training and coaching of young players.
