Peshawar becomes champion of PCB Senior Inter-District Cricket

PESHAWAR, Aug 8 (APP): Peshawar become champion of the PCB Peshawar Region Inter-District Senior Cricket Championship after taking first innings lead of 88 runs against District Nowshera in a draw match played here at Islamia College Ground on Monday.

Peshawar after securing victories against Dir Lower, Swat and Charsadda and got 88 runs first innings lead against Nowshera in their last group match drawn before topping the points table.

Nowshera won the toss and elected to bat first by setting up 151 runs all out after playing 45 players with Gohar Ali struck 45 runs, skipper Akbaar Bacha was unbeaten on 41 runs, Aamir Ahmad scored 24 runs, none of the other batsmen could cross the double figures.

For Peshawar District Nasir Ahmad, the left-arm medium pacer grabbed four wickets 36 runs while right-arm spinner Muhammad Riaz took 3 wickets for 30 runs.

In reply, Peshawar District scored 239 runs by taking 88 runs lead with star batsman Adil Amin smashed a cracking 83 runs with the help six boundaries and four towering sixes.

Mehran Ibrahim, the other prominent batsman made an half-century 51 runs with the help of five boundaries. Opener Shahibzad Farhan scored 38 runs and Nawaz Ahmad scored 22 runs were the leading contributors. For Nowshera Suleman Khan and Akhbar Bacha took four wickets each.

Nowshera District in their second innings scored 109 for the loss of seven wickets when the heavy rain came with the two umpires decided to declare the match as draw.

Muhammad Sajid and Farooq Ali Khan supervised the match while Aamir Khan acted as scorer. With the draw Peshawar emerged as the champion by leading the points table with three victories and a draw.
